I was perusing the CA cigar ratings tonite and I noticed they had the Lone Wolf Vintage Series corona rated 88. Are they serious? How much did Norris and Belushi pay for that rating?

Tis true, some of their ratings (Ok, a lot of them) seem a little off, for example, the above stated, ahem, cigar brand. However, I do find some of their articles rather interesting. Is CA all that bad??

Where the heck were you tonight Jazzman. You missed a good mini-herf. One of them gave me some sort of a Joyo de Nicaragua that knocked my socks off!

ca is that bad. it's the playboy of the cigar smokers, except they show naked cigars and 8 thousand dollar stereos and wine that no one can afford, and clothes that no one even dreams about. it's a fantasy, including their taste tests.

I like the pictures, take the ratings with a grain of salt, but no matter what cigar company, one that advertises in CA or not, if they get a high CA review, they use it!

I enjoy reading CA but take their ratings with a major grain of salt. They're alot like Wine Spectator, big ad budgets tend to get good reviews, but, smaller companies that are well rated are frequently worth a try.

If you ever tried the lone wolf's when they first came out, you might agree with CA. I don't know what happened to the originals, but most of us agree that the crap they sell now is.....well, crap.

As for CA, I'm a subscriber and always read the reviews, but rarely base a purchase on them. Take the information they give and compare it with other reviews if you care. There is only one review for me thats worth a sht, that's mine!

If they dissapeared today, I wouldn't miss them!

Do yourselves and your tastebuds a favor, pick up an issue of Smoke magazine. Better articles and HONEST reviews!

I don't tend to agree on articles in Smoke being better than the ones in CA, but it is a good magazine! All of these magazines whether they are Photography, Automobile, Skiing etc, will not give BAD reviews to the big advertisers! Fact of life, and you have to be able to look beyond that little factor and judge for yourself!

CanyonDVM - CA and Wine Spectator are owned by the same company, hence the similarities. Shanken has articles in both...

Ratings, schmatings ... I remember the first time I went into a cigar store that had displayed the ratings of the various cigars ... in answer to a question I asked, I was shown the rating, as if that were the answer to my question ... implication was, if it was rated an 89, it was by definition better than if it were rated 88 ...

Well, as someone else in this forum recently wrote, I might have been born at night, but not LAST night ... I sure as hell don't know everything, but know enough to realize that taste varies widely from one individual to another ...

That particular store has long since thrown out the little ratings signs ... I recommend you all do the same ... pay absolutely NO attention to the rating, it means absolutely NOTHING other than it is someone elses OPINION, not a fact and that other person (or panel of people) might have their opinion swayed by a number of factors not the least of which is $$$$$$$ ...

Smoke different cigars, remember which ones you like and which ones you don't ... buy and smoke more of the ones you like ... period.

I love the Mag, you look through it see a full page advertisement for some new off the wall brand made from god only knows what type of leaf and then just like magic you open to the ratings and there it is. "With a fine finish, a hint of almond, coco, and a old sneaker. This is destined to be the smoke of perfect people with perfect teeth, and above average children. We gave it a 92." Come on cut the crap if I could afford a page they would rate my hair butt a 91.
