I have a question. You always hear about people needing cigs and I read that a cigar could have as much nicotine as a whole pack of cigars. Other than bidding and over bidding does anyone feel really addicted?

Good question. I have wondered the same. I don't know if I am addicted to time out it provides, the flavor, the buzz, the bidding. It's all so wonderfully overwhelming. I am curious to see the responses on this.

I have a high threshold for addiction. Mostly because the family keeps me too busy to be able to smoke more than a few a week. Get a wife,ex-wife and have a few kids and you will be too busy refereeing and hauling people around to become addicted to anything except bidding. Then the full credit cards will end that one also.

Have seen you around lately. Where ya been?

I agree with GYO. No time to be adicted to anything. I get a buzz off one beer now, when just a few years ago...it took 3-4.

Kids don't like the smoke, wife doesn't like the smoke. Don't have time for a 1 hr cigar. I have a whole bunch of big gars that get no time out of the humidor, except when I go fishing.

If a cigar gives you a buzz...then it has the same stuff cigarettes do. Nicotine...lots of it.

I don't think that I am addicted in the sense that I crave them and or the chemicals released through my bloodstream when smoking. I think it stems from a pure enjoyment of the whole thing, the smell, the taste, the feel, etc. the whole process is envigorating. Also, if you're like me, you visit this website most everyday of your life and it reminds you of your passion, leaving you in anticipation of that next smoke. Making it all the more sensual of an experience. So, to answer your question, am I addicted? YES!!!! but not on a chemical level, an emotional one, and that is something that a non-cigar smoker will never be able to understand.

As a former cigarette smoker and smokeless tobacco user I can tell you it's nowhere near the same. When I smoked cigarettes/dipped skoal I wouldn't go anywhere without them. I'd have a smoke in the morning while walking to the bus stop. When I was inside and couldn't take a break I'd put in a dip of skoal and spit in a cup (talk about a nasty habit!).

It was something I did without even thinking. I'd be sitting at my desk working and something would click in my brain and I'd reach for a cigarette and a lighter. It wasn't about the enjoyment it was pure habit. I quit cigarettes/skoal about 15 years ago.

I don't have cravings for cigars the way I did for cigarettes and I don't chain smoke cigars like I did cigarettes either. I often go days without a cigar.

With cigars, it's about the whole experience. The environment is as much a part of it as the cigar. The conditions have to be right. A lot of you guys have posted comments about smoking out in the cold weather. I rarely go outside to smoke if it's cold. I just don't enjoy the experience if I'm shivering or rushing to get back inside. I'd rather smoke 1 cigar a week in a nice comfortable setting than 10 cigars on a cold damp patio.

Well said Penzt, I'm also an ex cigarrette somker and agree with what you've said. With cigarretees I "needed" another, it was the first thing on my mind when I woke up. With cigars, it's a way to relax and enjoy myself and the company I'm with.

I used to "need" a cigarette when I smoked them and now that I smoke cigars, I do not feel that I have to have one, but do not feel that it is something that I can give up either!

Tough call!

Agree with all coments about cigarettes. An x cigarette smoker myself. Cigars are more like the anticipation of opening Xmass presents. They're exciting, fun and pleasurable, but not addicting IMO.

I don't know about cigars themselves, but this site is one of the most addicting things I have ever experienced. I honestly get excited to get on and see what new messages have been posted

i'm also a former cigarette smoker and the difference between cigarettes & cigars is like night & day . i don't feel the need to smoke a cigar , i light one up for the sheer enjoyment of it .and i still enjoy them outside here in upstate N.Y ,as long as i bundle up

Harleyman,

Where upstate are you? I'm up here enjoying the freezing cold right along side of you.

In my case smoking a cigar is almost ritualistic. The anticipation leading up to actual lighting of the cigar is addicting. I froze my ass off last night enjoying a new Acid Blondie (quite surprised by how well it smoked). But it was my time, no wife, no kids, just the quiet of the night. Peace and quiet……that’s addicting!!!

I spend alot of time up there by Kingston on the Shawangunk ridge line. I'm from CT. but go up there every month to hike. Awsome friggin' place. Nice 12-15 mile hike on the ridge accompanied by a couple quality smokes. After which I sit my ass down at the Swiss Mountain House on rt.44 in Gardiner for Spaten and Bratwurst. An end to a perfect day.

I'm right outside of Albany. Out in the "sticks" according to the NYC folks.

Freeze away!!
