I've got a chance to purchase a bundle of Cohiba Dominicans at $1.40 per stick. Not a bad price, but was wondering if they're even worth that.

I realize they will be a poor imitation (at best) of the ISOM classics, but thought I might give 'em a whirl. Anybody tried these before and what are your thoughts?

they don't compare with the classics ... period

As to whether they're worth $1.40, that's a matter of individual taste ... don't think of this as an endorsement, but I've smoked stuff that cost a lot more than those do that was far worse ...

A mild to medium average smoke. If $1.40 is a good price for cigars in your area,go for it. At least ya can't get burned to bad, iffin you don't like em. X

wj, that's the going retail price for the yellow band cohibas. I found that if you age them for about six months the taste and burn is dramatically improved.

I take it we are not talking about the red dot cohibas that are about $2 a stick just for pequenos. Because red dots are fantastic cigars.

Every yellow label Cohiba Dominican I have smoked has been VERY dry and lacking any taste.

They call the cigar you are referring to a "hybrid counterfeit," for lack of a better term.

It's intended to look like the genuine Cuban Cohiba, but it claims Dominican origin on the band. The only Dominican-made Cohiba that may be legally sold in the United States is the Red Dot.

The Red Dot Cohiba is manufactured by General Cigar Holdings Inc. in a free trade zone in Santiago and exported to the United States; General registered the Cohiba name in the States in 1978. General does not sell their Cohiba or claim ownership in the Dominican Republic, where several other companies make cigars under the Cohiba name. Who owns Cohiba in the Dominican Republic is a matter for the Dominican courts.

Detecting an illegitimate Dominican Cohiba in the United States is simple. If it doesn't look like the General band, it infringes on General's trademark. "Illegitimate" is probably a more appropriate term than "counterfeit", in that it clearly makes no attempt to copy the look of General's band.

These are more commonly called "yellow band" Cohibas ...

Thanks to all who replied! Actually, I overstated the price per stick. It actually comes to about a buck.

Will take JJ up on his nice offer and decide for myself.

Perhaps, I'll get a nice Xmas bonus and upgrade to the Red Dots. Of course, perhaps someday monkeys will fly, as well. ;-)

Jim- Package received...thanks for your extreme generosity!!

Sorry about the delay. Been off and on the road most of the week tending to business.

The Cohibas are...well, very normal. Probably worth the buck a stick, but quite ordinary. Did have a bit of a draw problem too.

The rest of the package is "going down nicely", however. My thanks, again!
