No Mag, I didn't bump my head. I'm tired of seeing the same names on the lost bids. CP of Redlands CA and LT of Waycross GA are on my hit list for sniping bids at the last minute as are a few others that keep popping up. I try to get in as early as possible on a cigar I like or want to try, so that I can try to get it at the best price. I do my research and put out a bid. Then the idiots come in at the last minutes of the auction and bid retail.
It's been fun pushing CP and LT over retail on their bids. I burned LT on some LGC R's, I bumped him to 31 bucks a 5 pack on 3, 5 packs. CI sells them for 29 a 5 pack and to burn him I took all 3 5 packs at 29. LT came back and took all 3, 5 packs at 30, but he was mad at me for for the comment, Bye LT and used auto bid to get them back and keep them. So I knew that he must have bid at least 31 to use auto bid, so I bumped him to 31.
Mag, I am just venting about some of the hogs and snipers here.

This is the stepbrother of the other dead horse about over-bidding. Some people bid early, some bid late. An auction is sometimes like chess and sometimes like war. You win a few, you lose a few. So what. Everyday is a new opportunity to play the game. Whining and carrying grudges is bad for one's health. I get most of my cigars by trading and buying thru a couple of internet sources, but if I get lucky on a bid now and then I am happy. Happy New Year!!!

RP, be sure to let us all know when you are bidding and your favorite smokes and I'm sure everyone here will gladly allow you to win every time!

I'm a bargain getter. If it's early or late bidding I don't care. If I can get it cheaper than local shops(including the shipping)then I'm in. If I've ever "walked" on your toes then I'm sorry, but that's the price we pay for using an auction site.

Todog,
There are lots that I don't bid on because I "know" the person bidding and don't want to keep that person from getting the bid. I also never bid on all the 5 packs in a lot because there might be someone else that wants to try them also.

I thought you are supposed to bid what you are willing to pay. If you lose, you bid on something else. Eventually you win. What am I missing?

I never look at who's bidding...I look only for the cigar that I want to win. If I don't win, I wait till the next time.

I thought that was the excitement about an auction. If you think this is cutthroat don't even think about buying something on Ebay. If somebody wants to pay over retail, let em have it. It has been my experience that you will get another shot at the same item in the near future.

CBid is only one place to get cigars. The auction is supposed to be more fun than a retail transaction. It's not all about money. How do you get your fun?

Wow, I always say, retreat to fight another day! The same sticks will be up in a few days or less and see if you can get them then at a bargain!

Charlie

PS The days of getting a box of 5 Vegas Torpedos for 28 bucks are dead and gone!

I "pushed" a couple of bids up in early days and accidentally "won" a couple at a higher price than I really wanted to pay ... soooo, I just don't play that game anymore ...

Almost any so-called strategy you choose to follow, some will win and some will lose ... I pick up enough cigars that the most frequent words from MrsS mouth are "but Steeeeuhheeeve ... you don't NEED any more cigars" ...

be happy with those you win and forget the rest ... or be prepared to spend a lot of energy playing games and being frequently frustrated ... and frankly, if you choose the latter course, please .... don't take up bandwidth complaining about it ... it's a HUGE dead-horse issue

Yipes!! Sounds like 'sour grapes' to me. I put in a bid for a cigar at a price I'm willing to pay and forget about the auction thereafter. If I later learn that I won, yippee. If I lose, oh well, on to other auctions.

I'm hoping what you've described isn't some schill working for the auction house (on ebay, some sellers were accused of arranging for schill bidders to drive up prices -- resulting in criminal investigations). Perhaps, they're just being driven by compulsion?

Geez louise! I just bid "my" price. I let no one dictate how high I want to go. If I see the auction bump up...I bail out.
I rarely pay more than a few bucks a stick. If it goes above my cheap a$$ limit...then I wait till next time.
BTW....are big butt cigars any good??
I hope so LOL.

I get the same response as Steve. "RAY!! You bought some more frigging cigars?!. You're never going to smoke all the ones you have!!"

RP, If you think this thread is what made your auction win successful, you are kidding yourself.
Everyone has gone through what you described on your original post. If you are patient, you will find an auction that goes your way.
I have never seen someone brag about bumping up prices on others to get even. Thats childish in my opinion.
We all have a right to bid as we please. You arent "Lord of the auctions". If I see something I really want, and nowhere else to get it, dont count on any mercy from me.

RP, do you think it might have something to do with the fact that on New Year's Eve, there were a lot fewer people hanging out on CB. I had some deals in my watch list, but forgot about them as the evening took shape.

Mag,
I didn't expect or want any positive replys to the post. The post is negative, there fore the replys will be negitive. The point is that if we observe some sort of unspoken etiqutte, then we might just get a few cigars for less. Like I said, I try not to be a hog and I try not to bid against some of the people that I see posting on the boards. The Village Idiots (VI in the comments) don't bid against each other and there are a few other "clubs" that try to do the same thing.

I apologize if I have hit a nerve with this thread or bumped any of your bids in the past.

Happy New Year and
Best Regards,
Robert

Actually Robert you didn't hit a nerve here.. I was LMAO at the whole thing... it is a dead horse Issue that keeps coming up every time someone gets Burned at the Auction Block... Sorry that you got so heated over a loss that you had to make a comment on the boards and get slammed... but all in Humor.. it has happend to all of us.. sometimes it is a Fun game to make the other guy Blow his loot on dog rockets only knowing he evedently did not do his homework... and with Auctions its a blast!!! I once seen a Farmers Auction a burned out Webber Grill go for 5 bucks and the half used bag of Charcol went for 20.00!!! all because of a few farmers fueding over the bids...LMAO Happens all the time... and the Ross Perot toss was in Pun...
Happy New Years to you all....

Hog

Holy S**T, I don't believe this post!! Hello, this is an auction site.

Auction(n)(ôkshn)- A public sale in which property or items of merchandise are sold to the highest bidder.

There you go, "highest bidder" Sometimes you win some, sometimes you lose some. Such is life. Get over it!!

Yes, I have won many auctions on here - all for below retail. Have some items that I bid on went totally off the wall?....yes, but I moved on! I set my autobid to what I'm willing to pay and if I get outbid at the last minute, hour, day, whatever - so be it. I wait till the item is listed again and try again.

What I DON'T do is post "warnings" to my fellow cBidders!! I mean look what you wrote...

"To all you who bump my bids... be warned that if you bump me you will not get a single stick off any of the boards.....ever!!!!!"

There, now tell me that does not look like something a child would write?? I'm not trying to get on you about this or make you look bad. I'm just saying calm down and look at what you wrote again ...... seems silly doesn't it?
