An extremely nice friend of mine shipped me 6 partagas
cubans for x-mas. They wernt shipped very well and 2 of the 6 are half way ruined. They are partagas(49x7.7/8). Does anyone have any ideas what can be done with the halfs that i will have to cut off?

DO NOT CUT THEM IN HALF. Instead, send me the entire damaged cigars. I specialize in ripped wrapper repair services for distressed isom cigars. Oh, and I will need you to send me a couple of the nondamaged ones as well so that I can use them as templates.

If they are merely coming unwrapped, try a few dabs of gluestick.

You might try smoking it in a pipe. Never tried it myself but it might be okay.

Hey dog, You don't smoke glue, you sniff glue.

For small cigar injuries, I here tell people use fruit pectin to mend damage. I don't know how that will work with major damage.
Can someone validate that please?

Smoke em without the wrapper as long as the binder
is together. They are ugly but you might like the smoke. I had a HOYO ISOM that did the same thing
but smoked great.

I have heard the same about fruit pectin, I know that I would not use Super Glue or Wall paper paste, but these could be damaged beyond hope!!

I take a cigar cutter to the undamaged section and make it into a shorter cigar!

Slimboli and SteveS this is something you two guys should be able to advise on!!!

I have used pectin to fix cigars many times. It is odorless and tasteless, so you can use as much as you need to fix the damages. It works well, actually, many of your major cigar rollers use pectin to roll their cigars. However, make sure you let your cigar dry for about 20-30 minutes prior to smoking it.

Grocery store....near the jello. They stock canning stuff there. My wife likes to can stuff, so I get to frequently run out at 11PM to grab supplies. It is fruit pectin if you need to ask a clerk.

(Ive never used it on a cigar before but it makes great sense)

I'm surprised that no one here has mentioned Cigar Doctor!

And my apologies to our hosts for posting the site!

I sent it before I went back to look at it again, and realized that it had a link to a cigar wholesaler.

Thankfully it is a tobacco wholesaler only, and will not sell on a retail basis to the general public.

There's a couple of products available for repairs. I've only used it on a few beetle holes and 1 or 2 unwrapped premiums ...

(1) Cigar Dr
(2) Cigar Repair

It's the same vegetable based adhesive used in making/rolling the cigars. Dab (small amount) under the wrapper leaf and it will fix the cigar (smokable condition) without affecting the taste.

Or like mentioned above, go find liquid CERTO at your grocery store - liquid fruit pectin available in the jelly making section. Liquid is better - no mixing or just mix a small amount of the powered and store it in a film cannister and keep it in the fridge (keeps for about 5-6 months. To fix badly damaged cigars, paint pectin over the areae/hole, and place a "patch" of wrapper leaf (available at most cigar stores OR use any dog rocket with a CT Leaf. Wait until the pectin dries - then smoke. One note: the fruit pectin has no odor - but you might get a hint of 'sweetness' in your puffs - better than losing the whole cigar though.

Just my humble opinion.

On another note: CIGAR BEETLES

As you all know, I recently found these bastards in my Avallo - to no avail - I couldn't catch them all and didn't want to 'deep-freeze' all of my premiums just for a 'precautionary' measure. I did freeze all that had holes in them (sealed them in 1 gallon Ziploc freezer bags) for a week - then 5 days in the fridge, and then went to re-introduce them into the Avallo. MORE HOLES though ... SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooo

I raised my humidity to 74% at 70 degrees - get them moving - and then placed a dish with 2lbs of Dry Ice in the Avallo - as the dry ice evaporated - it created a 'fog' effect in the humi and essentially 'fumigated' and/or froze (created a perma-frost effect) all through the inside. I added dry ice chunks 2x a day for 5 days about 2lbs each time and have yet to see any more beetles.

Mad Scientist? Maybe - but I was desperate and it worked (been 4 months now) and I've not had them back. Sadly enough, I should have done this with my premiums also - they would have faired better than the plastic bag & freezer routine.

- just my .02

- note:

as the dry ice evaporates it releases carbon dioxide - so - either frozen or suffocated - no more beetles.

Wow Jimmy! That's sounds like some pretty extreme measures. No ill effects on the humidor?
