Slim was right, these are a great smoke. At first it started like a FS extra light. I was thinking, what the heck was Slim talking about. Then it happened, the flavor started to build and it kept building. Man,what a monster smoke. X

X .. I've gotta agree .. an El Capitan was the first Buc I smoked (almost a year now) ... IMO, they start off good and get better with every puff ...

Right on, JR! Aristocrats like X and Slim should be forced to list a cigar that's "just as good" for less money when they rave about these $20 cigars!

xibbumbero --- was it an el natural or maduro?

The maduro is the one I was referring to ...

If you buy them by the box (at some of the sales I've seen going lately), you can get them for $6.25 each.

Yep ... $75 for a box of $12 ... right now ....

You can substitute "Bucaneros" for "CAO" on any of these threads. I'm sure they are fine smokes, but we are not talking bargains smokes. The five packs are going for more than retail, and all this hype is not helping any! It is nice to be close to Philadelphia and get those xXx's at retail.

Where the heck are you guys shopping? $20 cigars!? I don't think so.
I just got a box(14) of Peg Legs (my favorite of the El Capitan line) for $6 each and got a bonus (offer is over) of 3 addditional Peg Legs and 2 Full Sails!!
X, have you tried the Peg Leg? mmmmmmmmmmmm....goooooood

bassithound --- from my observations, most of the 5-packs and boxes I've seen at auction here are going for retail or below, with only a few being slightly higher.

CI has them for below most online (that carry them) sites, and definately much less than the local cigar shops in states that have outreageous tobacco taxes.

Try them, if you can get a hold of them. I believe you will be impressed ...

Slim, yes it was the Maduro. Thanx for the tip on these.
Barry, yes I have tried the Peg Leg. I didn't like it as much. I've only tried one though. I'll try another,as I know that sometimes taste buds can be off. I'll post again on those guys. X

I won a box of Clasico Maduros here for well below retail. Unfortunately, the box must have been shaken in transit. The wrapper was flaked off most of the torpedo ends. Man was I disappointed! I was all set to smoke one! I am eagerly awaiting my replacements. Hopefully I'll see them today.

How many different types of Bucaneros are there? I have seen Full Sail, El Captain, Classic Maduro, and Windjammer. What are the differences?

There are seven lines, if you count the three el Capitan's, which include the Maduro, el Natural and Peg Leg ... and they are introducing number eight for 2003. the only one you left out, was the Texas Star!

The differences are like night and day, from mild all the way to full bodied. The reasons for this, are the different blends of Dominican, Nicaraguan, Connecticut, Sumatra, Costa Rican and Equadorian tobacco used ...

I received my replacements today. This is a very nice cigar! Strong and smooth like many of the Nics being offered today. Nice complexity. I will be bidding on these again!

I tried the Bucanero Clasico Maduro Churchill this weekend. The 1st half was XLNT. The 2nd half wasn't,it got bitter and a little harsh. I purged it and it mellowed out a little but only for a short time. The one I had was under filled also. X

Interesting! When I got my box, I laid them out on a white towel. I noticed right away that the construction and color are inconsistent. The like priced competitors are much prettier. However, the one I smoked went for an hour and 15 (toro size). Nice even burn. I like the blend enough that this is an observation and not a complaint. I wonder if supply is having trouble keeping up with demand?

I seriously doubt it.

The tobacco leaves for each line is purchased 3 to 5 years before it is even rolled, and then held for an additoinal 6 months after is is rolled ... so when they are out, it's gone for that year. When it is gone, it's gone, and there is nothing left to 'keep up with' ...

That's why their production is limited ...

Slim, thanks for reminding me how that works. The problem during the boom was that companies were using tobacco that was not aged enough. Not the case here.

Are the El Capitan Maduro's the same blend as the Peg Legs... just a different size? If so, that will solve my problem for wishing the PL's were a little longer when I have that extra time to smoke.

El Capitan maduro. That is what the PL is in the shorter version.

Mr.Mean and Lowman --- the blend is slightly different, but it's pretty close.

The 'el Capitan Reserv Maduro' is Costa Rica Maduro wrapper, Dominican and Nicaraguan filler, and Nicaraguan binder.

The 'Peg Leg' uses a Dominican binder ...

Ahoy Mates!!
Smoked my 1st Buc El Capitan Maddie over weekend. It was great!! Taste was very smoooth. Only problem was that I had a hard time keeping it burning straight. Had to burn one side of the 'gar several times during smoking to even it off.
Anyone had this problem?? Maybe I just got a bad one. Will have to buy a box and do further reasearch!!

Probably just a little uneven humidity. They'll probaly straighten out after a little time to settle in your humidor.
