My Colibri jet lighter only stays lit for 2 seconds. Is there a safe, non-destructive way to clean jet lighters? I'd hate to have to shove my oxy-acetylene torch tip cleaners down the lighter tip. Any advice would be appreciated.

Here's a fix
1-blow out the tip with an air compressor
2-purge all the fuel out of it. keep shaking it because gas expands when you do. shake, purge, shake purge until you hear no gas escaping whatsoever.
3-turn the flame setting down all the way, and operate the lighter switch using a knife or scissors or something you can wedge to keep the action open.
4-hold the lighter upside down and fill it.

you may have to repeat this procedure several times before you clear it of air and debris that are preventing it from working. if you fill it this way everytime, it will last and work great for a long time. Always use Colibri or Dunhill extra refined fuel. Ronson fuel is full of impurities that will clog your lighter. I have restored many a lighter this way.

Tip #2 ... be selective about the lighter fluid you use ... at the very least, use a triple refined product such as the one Colibri makes ... if you can find it, use Lava which is quintuple refined ... the cheap crap (i.e. Ronson) at Walmart is lighter poison that will clog your lighters arteries and induce a fatal heart attack ... even the highest quality lighters are defenseless against this poison ... I can't tell you how many good lighters have given their lives so that we might know and live crappy-ligher-fluid-free lives, but now that you know, I hope that every time you light up without problems from now on, that you pause a moment and remember all those dead lighters that unwittingly gave their lives in the cause ...

just wanted to concur with ducati on what he said & also add that the ronson junk even doesn't work that great with my butane soldering iron . the colibri gas isn't that expensive either , I think I only paid 3.50 the last time I bought a can

Hmm, how's the Zippo butane? Only asking because I just got a COlibri Magnum as a late christmas present, and I already have some of the Zippo stuff.

I would only use the Colibri butane, but still with that in mind, I've had little success with Colibri lighters, and had to have them service twice. Their warrenty is good and the return time is relatively quick (2 weeks).
Since then, I only use my Colibri lighters sparingly, and found more success and longevity with the cheap torch lighters...like the ones they have here in CBid.
