As I smoked a lovely Cohiba XV 749 this afternoon, I go to thinking (something I try to do at least once a week). Why do the XVs cost less than the red dot Cohibas? You can pick up the XVs here and elsewhere for $5 to $7 a stick, while the Red Dots are more like $10 to $12. The XVs are IMHO much better (at least as good), so why hasn't the "ultra-premium" hype kicked in? I'm not wishing for it, just wondering what the X-perts here think.

And no, I'm not consciously trying to troll. So, if you want to flame me, let me at least break out another XV for you to light!

Errrrrrr, "go to thinking"???

I guess that XV went to the typing section of what's left of my brain.

Make that, "got to thinking".

Hope that's not an omen of how this week's going to be.

Had my 1st XV while watching the Eagles get whupped. What a wonderful smoke. I have no idea why the Red Dots cost more. If they are a better cigar they must be truly amazing.

I paid $9.60 for the XV749 in Maryland. Then Friday here on CB I won a fiver of 749s and one of 652s. Co-incidently they were $31 each.

By the box, I thought they were about the same price considering the XVs are 20 to a box. I could be wrong though.

Well, let's just say that I haven't seen the red dots for less than about $8 each anywhere/any size. That doesn't mean they can't be had for less, just that the average tends upwards of this.

The XVs are usually available here (and elsewhere) for the $6 or $7 range. I don't dispute that you can pay upwards of $10 for either type in different sizes. The local retailers are asking about $18 each for Churchill-sized red dots, and that's just too much for me (I'm just not worth it!).

I agree...The Red Dot Cohibas are crap IMHO, while the Xtra Vigoroso is actually a nice smoke!
