I think it is strange that someone thought it necessary to obscure the original labels. We all buy crap made in China every day. I have many tools that I bought for a one time use. They are low quality but were cheap and did the job. It is legal to trade with China. As Pres. GW would support that trade. Why the flap?

Sometime back in (I think) '98, Clinton visited the carrier my Navy son was stationed on ... the advance team took more than 24 hours of extraordinary pains during the time leading up to the presidential visit to be sure that every small detail of the pending "photo-op" would turn out precisely the way they wanted it to ... right down to fraction-of-an-inch positioning of the rotors of the helicopter which the President was choreographed to "spontaneously pause" next to (at a carefully marked spot, of course) so he could be photographed "in action" ...

Perhaps I'm overlooking something, but somehow I'm not too greatly surprised that ANY president (or serious candidate for the job) takes great pains to arrange all the peripheral details to be exactly as they want them to be, just as often as they can ...

Looking good for the media all began more than 40 years ago, when televising of the Kennedy-Nixon debates was observed to make Nixon photograph poorly on TV, particularly in contrast to the highly photogenic JFK ...

It is called propaganda. It was a skill mastered by Herman Goering in order to make Adolph Hitler appear exactly in a way and exactly at a place and doing exactly the things which would win over public opinion and support.

None of our Presidents since Johnson have operated without the use of our version of a "propaganda minister".

You can see it on a smaller scale with local politicians. As they climb the ladder, it gets more pronounced. I am involved in numerous "Dignitary Protection" details and get to see a lot of the prep time first hand. Funny how they squibble over the smallest details.

One more thing. It is a fact of life regardless of the political party or even the wishes of the politician.
Democrats and Republicans both do the same number of "public opinion" preparations and alterations to their environment so the pictures and videos look "just right".

When Bill Clinton went to the Hyatt Hotel in Newark CA, they had the advance guard arrange with the local car dealers to bring over Mercedes, BMW's, and other high end cars and park them in the parking lot. (I was there during the preparation).

The impression was so the his majesty would not be disturbed by the number of common people who stayed at the hotel.

Don't think that just because someone isn't "your" President that the same B.S. behind the scenes crap doesn't work both ways regardless of the party. It is all a stupid game of propaganda.

I remember back in the 50's when stuff made in Japan was generally inferior and people tended not to buy Japanese merchandise. People would look for the made in USA imprint. Japan then started marking their merchandise MADE in USA......Usa,Japan. They created a city named Usa. X

I may be wrong (or right) but to appease Red China, any product made in Taiwan is also labeled "Made in China".
