Planning a trip to SFO and wine country in June.....does anyone know of Cigar friendly establishments in these areas? I'm afraid my state has been infected with the same anti-smoking hysteria that has hit the west coast. The latest anti-smoking amendments to the Florida constitution go in effect July 1. I've heard Consolidated Cigar has already filed a petition challenging the "constitutionality" of the workplace ban (specifically in cigar rolling establishments in Miami and Tampa)

ttowle ... Rick has a damn good suggestion ... if you happen to take a side trip to SoCal, that is ... I-15 runs out of LA toward Las Vegas ... from the SF area, you'd be better advised to take I-80 east to Reno if you want to enjoy the cigar friendly environs of Nevada ...

Actually, there's a couple of spots in San Francisco you might want to try ... one is the Canterbury on Sutter Street, the other is a place whose name escapes me at the moment, but which is on Pine St, about half a block off Grant Avenue at the edge of the financial district ...

On your way to Napa, depending on how you route yourself, there's a very good Cajun restaurant/bar in Martinez that is cigar friendly ...

Drop me an e-mail before you leave to come out this way and I'll see about having some specific establishment names and their addresses, (I'll try to come up with some that are in the Napa/Sonoma area) written down to send you ... we might even be able to arrange a mutually convenient time to get together at one of these spots ...

copy/paste the below addy to the "to" space, then substitute (at) and (dot) appropriately

While you're in Napa (or surrounding area) check a few of the wineries. Many of them offer a deck or outdoor seating area where you can be sure of finding other cigar smokers. You may also want to check out Baker Street Tobacconist. The lady who owns the shop (forgive me, I've forgotten her name) may have some more insight as to the local smoking establishments.
BTW, Welcome to California...

Another one in the city is 850 Cigar Bar (at 850 Montgomery), they have cuban tapas, live music, pool tables, good scotch and bourbon, and allow smoking anywhere...

Does Grant and Green Saloon still allow cigar smoking?

Also in SF, if the weather is good the outdoor patio at the Park Hyatt lounge (second level) is very cigar friendly and nice. Pick one up from their limited humi or bring your own. Drinks are not the cheapest however!

Sorry to hear the anti-smoking crowd won out in Florida. My wife and I were in Venice last November and found a great cigar friendly pub. At that time we were told of this laws probable passage. Here in Iowa some cities are trying these laws locally. One solution has been to turn these pubs into private clubs. You join at the door for a $1.00 membership. Membership also comes with $1.00 off your first drink. Dan S.

T, my favorite place to enjoy an Opus X is on the top terace of Opus One in Oakville. It's kind of fun because the folks at the winery can be a bit pretentious, and since they lost the suit over rights to the Opus name, I just find it amusing.

San Francisco

The Occidental Cigar Club
471 Pine Street
415-834-0485
Opens at 12:00pm M-F
Sat from 8:00pm
Great bar where you can light up your own sticks.

Murrays Cigar Lounge in the Canterbury Hotel on Sutter Street. Buy your drinks at the hotel bar and take them into the smoking room.

NAPA VALLEY

No smoking allowed at any wineries. However, someone mentioned Baker Street Tobacconist in Napa and they have a small smoking area in the shop. Otherwise, on the street or on the Golf course.

Have a great trip.

You can smoke at the wineries as long as you are outdoors. Niebaum Coppola sells cigars and has their own humidor on the premises for the the owner and guests.

If you go over to Monterey, There is the Cool Cat Cigar Company on Cannery Row where you can enjoy a drink and sample one of their brands. Friendly little place with a large walk-in humidor.
