Saturday night, fifth cigar of the day. Having a Tabac Teepee, listening to Sinatra on the radio. My local station plays all Frank from 7-midnight all weekend.

Anyway I was enjoying life and got to thinking how long and how many cigars I've smoked since I started back in 71'. I was floored when I calculated it out to be about 25,000! Man is that possible?! Yep.

I usually smoke 2-4 per day, sometimes 5 or 6. (If I'm lucky.) There are days that I'm busy and only get 1 or 2, or if I have a cold.

I used to work in a smoke shop in th mid 70's and always had one in my mouth. I went through a box and some loose ones a week.

For awhile, my most was 7-8 a day. I used to get canker like sores on my mouth and tongue from always having one hanging out of my gob. So I cut down out of concern.

How about the rest of you cigar vets? Grab a pencil and piece of paper and weigh in! I know of a few of you that can come up with some impressive numbers. You'll see!

For all the newbies and newer smokers, see what you got to look forward to!

FIRE UP BOY'S!

Man! I cant compete with that! I'd say that in the 7 yrs under my belt I've smoked about 1500 cigars. That is a very rough estimate. Thats being very conservative. Going with 3 a week. Now I smoke about 10 a week.

Wow, I'd say around 3-5 per week here, and that's only for the last two years or so. Happy mouth cancer to us one and all!

I assume Rick meant to blow the tars out of the lit cigar before setting it down to go out. It'll taste better when you relight. However, the thought of watching someone try to blow out a cigar to extinguish it is much more amusing.

Enjoyment turned addiction I'd say.....I enjoy cigars mainly for taste (5-6 a week) not nicotine and if you're puffin' away at 7+/day, then health issues will arise........not that what I do is healthy.

bad assumption. i smoked cigarettes from age 16 to age 50. i was up to 4 packs a day. i had an mri a year or so ago and my lungs were clean and clear. the blow through the tube to measure lung capacity test, showed i had the lung capacity of an alpine skier.

"not nicotine" what do you think your cheeks are absorbing while you enjoy the taste.

health issues?

i'm 70. i have had one angioplasty, 4 colonoscopy's, one cystoscopy (this one you sleep through,
you don't want to know what is being done.), a biopsy of the prostrate, sedation highly recommended, the diabetes test is easy, they just prick your finger (or do i have that backwards)in 6 months cataract removal.

i don't even think about health issues.

Rick, notice the tale-end of my statement, "........not that what I do is healthy."

I know I get nicotine this way. Rick, this is the second time you failed to comprehend the full content of one of my statements......Grasshopper, you need to clear away the cigar smoke before you read posts. On the matter of your health, I am truly glad to hear you have been lucky....my father smokes 15-20 cigars a day. He wakes at 4:30am and doesn't put one down until 6:30pm (seriously), but manages to leave me behind during pre-hunting season work details (planting, etc.).
I call him Puff The Mean-Ass Dragon as he is an old fashion hard ass.

Hang in there Rick! I hope I make it to 70! You know James Dohan (Scott from Star Trek) fathered a child at 76?

After last week, I hope I make 50. Man I was down with a combo sinus infection/lung infection and flu. I haven't had a cigar in 8 days. I think I'll have one today. Beautiful little R.J. Habana that found it's way into my humidor.

I don't think cigar smokers face the same issues that cigarette smokers do. I really don't think anyone who has smoked cigarettes for 15-30 years can really say they have not damaged something (I included). Frankly, unless you have teflon lining your lungs, you don't inhale cigars like one would inhale a cigarette.

But to say one has smoked forever without damage is silly. I burned my fingers trying to get the last hint of life out of a Bolivar ISOM while on a cruise.

Anyway back to the thread. I don't think I will ever catch up to most people here. Just not enough time for more than a couple cigars a week. (Till summer fishing trips).
