Just got home last night, unbelievable trip, fishing was outstanding, 3 days of fishing, 13 marlin (striped, blue and black) and 29 sailfish. of course the rum and coffee were fantantic, as for cigars:
prices in the shops in san jose were no better then here, and everywhere they were selling cubans on the street and in the fishing villages, but again no deals and a lot of rip offs, but I did meet a man in a village on the north pacific side who had some homemade cigars, said his uncle rolled them at home with costa rican and nicaraguan tobacco, BEST CIGARS I have ever smoked, no bands, veiny wrapper, but OHH so good and he gave me 20 and would not take any money, so the next night I took his family out to dinner and he gave me 10 more.

Excellent. I am glad you had a great time. I think the best things about Costa Rica are the people...genuine, generous and friendly.

I figured Cuban cigars would be a tough find there. I am glad you found a local source. ^5
