Wow I did not know this myself...
No part of the flag should ever be used as a costume or athletic uniform. However, a flag patch may be affixed to the uniform of military personnel, firemen, policemen, and members of patriotic organizations. The flag represents a living country and is itself considered a living thing. Therefore, the lapel flag pin being a replica, should be worn on the left lapel near the heart.

Considered a living thing.

How many times have you seen people not take there hats off at ball games? when my Son was Playing Ball.. there was a Game we were at and the guy in front of me had his hat off.. I said sir. it is polite to remove your Hat during the National Anthem... he says Screw You I'm Athiest... I Politely said Screw You.. I'm Military... I don't know if it was my tone of voice, Look in my Eye, or the fact that I am Military... but he Politely removed his hat... but then relocated to a different Bleacher area...
Kind of like the pic of the Old Guy who Sacks Grocries now in the wheelchair on the Pic Post...It is Sad!!!

the point is just refreshing folks on the Flag Etiqute and the US Flags Rights,

National motto
The national motto of the United States is declared to be 'In God we trust.'

(a)(1) Whoever knowingly mutilates, defaces, physically defiles, burns, maintains on the floor or ground, or tramples upon any flag of the United States shall be fined under this title or imprisoned for not more than one year, or both.
(2) This subsection does not prohibit any conduct consisting of the disposal of a flag when it has become worn or soiled.
(b) As used in this section, the term 'flag of the United States' means any flag of the United States, or any part thereof, made of any substance, of any size, in a form that is commonly displayed.
(c) Nothing in this section shall be construed as indicating an intent on the part of Congress to deprive any State, territory, possession, or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico of jurisdiction over any offense over which it would have jurisdiction in the absence of this section.
(d)(1) An appeal may be taken directly to the Supreme Court of the United States from any interlocutory or final judgment, decree, or order issued by a United States district court ruling upon the constitutionality of subsection (a).
(2) The Supreme Court shall, if it has not previously ruled on the question, accept jurisdiction over the appeal and advance on the docket and expedite to the greatest extent possible

there is a man in a town I used to live in.. he is a Korean War Vet.. he showed me pictures of his unit and where they were at there in Korea... as I was looking at the Pictures he was telling me how at that time Helocopters were new to the military and shakey and scarce (sp) so the Wounded allot of times had to be carried out.. down mountians up mountians to the rear... in one of the pics it showed a guy with a leg missing a smile on his face and cig in his mouth... looking closer he was on a stretcher that was the American Flag.. I asked him is this the Flag?? he said Yes it is.. and back then we used whatever we had to get wounded guys away from the battle and to the rear...I need to go visit him and see if he would allow me to scan some of his pics...

You make a good point. Next time I see a hot babe with a flag on her bikini I will politely ask her to remove it. It's my patriotic duty.
