Ok, there was another post that piqued my interest. It was regarding long-term storage.

I have ALWAYS heard 70 degrees, and 70% RH for long-term storage. It seems there's a divergence in opinion. I am typically known for taking the path less traveled by so I don't know for a fact that I will modify my thinking, but I'm very interested to know the thoughts of other well respected colleagues on this forum.

So what's it gonna be boy? yes? or no? Don't sleep on it and give me an answer in the morning, is it 70/70? 70/65? a quick sprits with some seltzer water every weekend? a dip in the pool? packed in salt? In the immortal words of the robber looking down the barrel of Clint's 44 in the first Dirty Harry, "I gots ta know".

Short of having a Staeble and Associates temp-controlled humidor, I've never been able to keep mine at a steady 70/70; but mine generally stays around 68% and between 70-73 degrees in my closet. Humidity has not been above 71% since I figured out what I needed to do to regulate it--how much water to add at a given humidity level. When my humidity drops to 66%, I had a tablespoon or two of dist. water and I'm good to go for another few weeks. Not bad for living in Arizona where your 'gars can easily be drained of every drop of moisture if not care for correctly. I've found I like my smokes best at 68% which is where I keep my desktop humi--a small Daniel Marshall that holds about 20 smokes.

Honestly? Find a system that works for you. If you enjoy your cigars the way they are...don't change anything. Only make changes when you notice negative changes in your smokes...otherwise, you should be fine. I have 4 humidors, and all read somewhere between 64 and 72. But, my cigars are fine so I don't pay much attention to the readings.

I have "The Ploomidoor". I designed it and built it. I can keep it rock solid at 70/70. It is a totally controlled environment. So it can either be 70/70, or 70/65, or 71/68. I agree with the "whatever blows your skirt up" philosophy. I'm asking, what blows YOUR skirt up. If you were able to totally control both temp and humidity very tightly for long-term storage, what would you select and why??

I find my cigars burn better at 65% rh.

Thanks ceo. My question is long term storage. I have a dry box which I can keep at 65%. What about a year or more out? I can move them to the dry box before schmoking...

I dunno about you, but I don't wear skirts :)

I like to keep mine at 65 Humidity and 68 Degrees. Most of my cigars are maduros, and have naturally moist wrappers...so if they are a little dryer they burn better.

My humidors have passive humidifiers. They are usually around 70 or 71%. During the summer I sometimes don't bother filling them because it's so humid here. In the 'dor it will sometimes drop to 66 before I refill. My opinion is that 68% is better than 72%. If I had your rig, I would try 68%.

I was reading (somewhere) that the English (British)tend to keep their cigars at 65% as the cigars smoked better at that humidity. I have my 2 humidors that I use for "daily" smoking with the 65% Climax Beads and my bigger 'Dors for long storage at 70% with 50/50 solution.

I think that the drier cigars do smoke better (JMHO)...69

I also prefer a dryer (65%) smoke. Especially for Perdomos and the heavier wrapper maduros.

I know that one of those "really big, well known distributors" states on their web site that they store their cigars at 65%RH. I try to maintain 65% to 68% RH and find that the cigars keep and smoke great. Over 70% and mold can really ruin things (I had that to happen with my first Tupperdor as it didn't breath and the PG disipated over time. I ruined some fine sticks..I reconditioned them over time but they still had that mold smell so I tossed them.)
