Oh yeah. Looking forward to doing some time outdoors. Checking to see if Braidwood, which is just south of me, has camping.

Will be going back up to Idaho this Summer then from there to several places along the Canadian border. Yeah, bacon in the morning frying in the same pan with some onions and chopped potatoes and a sh#$load of butter! The other skillet has several dozen eggs scrambling in it. Hot strong black coffee percolating next to it. Can't wait!
Nice pic of Mr. Mean.

Just got my new Northface backpack (6000 cu. in.) and getting ready to use it. I plan to go to backpack through Yosemite again, and maybe head out to Havasu Canyons. And got a new girlfriend to enjoy the trip with, so the tent won't be cold anymore.

I just spent the weekend camping. As I do every weekend. In my 1968 lil loafer camper. I camp out every weekend, to be closer to my job. I am a chef, at a small resturant in the Ozark national forest. Great camping, fishing, hiking, and beer drinking.
Have hiked the ozark highlands trail twice in the last 3 months. Once during a snow storm, what a rush.

Hey HOMEBREW,
I have some friends who is going on that trail over spring break. They were asking what I knew of it but I've never been on it. Is there much elevation gain? Have heard that some water crossings can be diffacult. How do you rate it? beginner ? Intermediate? Expert?

For me, nothing beats the desolate, quiet beauty and majestic rock formations of Joshua Tree National Park.

Is there still that pond that everyone throws their goldfish into out there???
I haven't hiked those rocks for nearly 16 years...brother was stationed at Twenty Nine Palms then.

I went out there a day ahead of the fam about two or three years ago. The "pond" is still there (are you talking about the one that's near the arch?), but I'd be surprised if anything could survive in it for very long. It was a lot smaller than it appeared to be in pics I've seen. The wind was brutal that weekend, and it was freezing cold that night, so I went back into town the next morning and told them to cancel. It was still kind of cool, though...
