I'm taking my wife and daughter to New Orleans for the holidays and I found that at a shop named Cafe Havana you're able to buy pre embargo cubans. Has anyone ever had experience with cubans that old and do you think it would be worth the money ($20-50 per stick)? Thanks alot for your imput.

I won a bid here for 8 of them in a golf bag holder ... for $40. I also found a site that sells the Rothschilds at $18.49 each and Churchills at $21.99 each. Are they the 50/50, or the 100%? I know that there is a 100% pre-embargo out there that can go for $250-$750 a box. They are really good cigars ... not two weak and not too strong, well constructed with an even burn and a wonderful flavor. I like them ... but would never pay full retail on them. Kind of a collectors cigar, something to impress your cigar buddies with. After all, how many folks can say they have in their stash, or have smoked, a 45 year old cigar that is pre-Kennedy?

You ARE talking about Pinars in particular, Johnny?...I know that is what Slim is referring to...The Pinar B (if I recall) is made up of 50% Honduran/50% pre-embargo Cuban tobacco...The Pinar A (or Especiale) costs around $22.00 here in the Chicago area and is 100% pre-embargo Cuban tobacco...I have purchased the Pinar B's (robustos)for around $9 bucks a stick...They are pretty good smokes..Medium to Full flavored...Very nutty taste..I wouldn't spend $20-50 bucks on them unless the entire cigar itself (not just the filler) is a pre-embargo, such as the cigars that Christie's of London occasionally sell at auction (such as Henry Clay pre-embargos or Montecristo Pre-embargos)...I have one in my 'dor now (thanks to the generosity of Slim a few weeks ago) Slim, sounds like you got a good deal..$8 a stick plus the little golf bag 'dor...Niiice.

My correction...Eight Pinars and the golf bag dor for $40??!!...Wow..Only five bucks a stick...Even better!

Thanks for the replies so far! I guess I should have been a little more descriptive. A couple of the examples were a 1955 Partagas 100% Cuban and a 1955 Blackstone with Havana filler but not a cuban wrapper. Thanks again for your information, it has been very helpful!
