Drastic Budget Cuts Loom In Arlington
(Arlington, TX) -- Phase two of Arlington budget cuts is expected Tuesday and the news may be grim. Officials are trying to fill a nearly $5 million deficit, and that number is expected to grow to nearly $14 million next fiscal year. Among the cutbacks, the city is reducing hours of operation for libraries and pools, and cutting funding for the Tarrant county Crime Stoppers program. But perhaps most troubling is the possibility of cutting firefighter crews, from four firemen to three. Arlington is facing tough economic times because of a low sales tax revenue. The council will consider the proposed cutbacks during a 4pm meeting.
