Of all the Democrats since John F. Kennedy, Senator Moynahan was my favorite. Not because I agreed with him a lot, but because he was an intellectual, thoughtful, witty and decent man. His successor in the Senate is probably my least favorite Democrat in all that same time.
Today was another one of my many birthdays. I woke this morning on Elbow Cay in the Bahamas, happily achy from a day of sailing and with an armful of itchy no-see-um bites. Back in D/FW tonight after a nice dinner I lit up a very disappointing Cohiba robusto that needed a vacuum attachment to get any smoke to draw from it. I should have left it in my humi. It looked good anyway.
It was, on the whole, a nice day, much of it spent in the air or at airports, but time out was taken to mourn the passing of a good American.
