Hey Guys!

This is a Berretta 92FS. 9mm semi automatic. Basically stock, except for grips(Houge), and night sites.

This was at one time the standard weapon issued to the military. It still may be, but I dont know. I have the 15 rnd magazines. It shoots real nice!

Any other gun enthusiasts out there? I have others guns, I will post one a week. I think I can keep it going for about 2 months.

Next week: Colt King Cobra, 357Mag Stainless!

Hey Mag, this is too much. 1st you post a picture of my dog, now my gun. I have this same pistol, a 92fs. Probably, I've fired 5000 rounds with it and it's never jammed once.

M9 for me! After having a WWI .45 revolver, and then a .45 ACP, I went with what I knew! The wife loves it too. I too have the 15 round clips. Hang on to those!!! Mine was part of a commentorative package that came with a webbelt, a cool buckle, ammo pouches and 2 clips. Haven't changed a thing on it. Why mess with perfection?

Aim big, hit big. Center mass baby!

I'll Stick to the 6 Cylinder Rugger Red Hawk Magnum 44.... less chance of it Jambing up when Needed... along with the Black Talons 250 grain hollow points for the Added knock down power... I don't get to many peeping Toms...

Hog, Cool, Big Bang!

My newest addition is a Ruger .45

The .50 Desert Eagle is fantastic. Hugely Big Bang!

I see where Colt has introduced a .50 Magnum!!!!
I can't wait till our local shooting range gets one in so I can try it:-)

I can shoot and can handle a firearm with respect, but I'm not too up on gun lingo. Dr, what's an M9 and that's 15 rd clips for a 45? Thinking about a home defense weapon and was considering the .45 but was concerned about jammups.

We (my department) were going to go with those a long time ago. found a problem with them. The take down lever is mounted to the side of the slide. Found out that some gangs were practicing on how to grab the gun, pop the lever and take away the top slide and barrel.

Probably not a problem for most shooters, and I have never heard of it actually happening to someone, but that one feature disqualified it from our list.
Personally I really like the gun. Nice shooter and durable as heck.

My choice for 9mm is the Browning High Power, probably the most dependable semi-auto ever made!

JJ

I'm familiar with the Browning. In Guns and Ammo the Barretta shot more rounds than any other without a misfire or jam up. That was probably 5yrs ago when that was done.

I also own a Browning Buckmark target pistol. Browning makes fine guns.

eh3856, Glocks are very dependable also. I heard you can drop one in sand, it can even get inside, and a Glock will still work fine. Just what I read.

RDC, Boy you like the BIG ones! Have you ever held a Desert Eagle in your hand? Its enormous!

Robby, for home defence a shotgun is the way to go. I have a Mossberg. It comes with 3 Barrels. The short barrell with a pistol style grip is my choice. Wide spread, but wont kill your nieghbor by shooting through a wall.

eh3856, didnt notice that you have a PYTHON!! Wow those are the best revolver I know of. Others are measured up against the Python. Very pricey gun, but worth it! I have a shooting buddy who owns one.

JD1...M9 Beretta. 9mm, standard sidearm issue for our military. They were coming in a little before I was going out. Got my hands on one and was hooked. More power(ala Tim Allen)! It's also easier for smaller hands, so that would explain why the wife likes it too. The 15 round clips are for the M9, and not the .45. If you're on the fence about which one to buy, I'd seriously check out a local gun club/indoor firing range. Most have a "rental" counter with a "greatest hits" selection. 44 Mag., Desert Eagle, .357 mag...yada yada yada. Most will have a 9mm and a .45. I would fire both before making a decision. I've owned both, and the M9(especially!)has it ALL over the .45. For what it's worth...the .45 revolver I had had better response and weighed better in my hand than the ACP.

Have fun!

Mag...the Python definatly is in a class by itself. It has got to be the most solid and smoothest firing pistols I have ever shot.I bought it from the original owner who is a buddy that I work with...That is one that for sure will be passed down to my son after I leave this world and smoking cigars with the BIG guy up above.

I like the Colt 1991A1 45, a litle more thump than a 9mm, no need to double tap, one in the center will do it. Never a jam or mecanical problem.

Barreta had a manufacturing problem with the ones they supplied to the Navy. Seems the slide would shoot off the receiver during recoil and hit the shooter in the mug. Never heard what the problem was. Me? I kept using the .45. I always had confidence that if I ever shot anybody, they would go down (never had to).

Mag,I've owned and fired quite a few different 9mm's in my day. I sold my Barettas and would never buy another, on the other hand I'll never sell my Browning HP's.

JJ, I guess we all have our favorite brand.

The military chose the Barretta because it out performed the others, thats all. The tests the guns are put through are pretty tough.

I may be wrong, Rayder would know. I believe the "Sigs" are becoming the 1st choice for law enforcement, when there is a choice of firearms. They are very nice also.

Beretta won the military contract for multiple reasons, reliability being one of them. They also won due to pricing.

JD1,

If you want an extremely reliable .45 get a Kimber. When I start looking for a .45, I will look for a Kimber Custom II Stainless Steel. They are very reliable and are much tighter than the Colts, Springfields, etc.. IMHO, they are the best production .45 out there.

Now if you want an extremely relible and iexpensive steel 9mm get a CZ-75B. They are made in Chekloslavakia (I know my spelling sucks) and are a very nice weapon. You can pick one up for less than $350 out the door.

Mag, Yes I have held, fired and coveted a DE.
I went with some coworkers during lunch to the local range.

It took some convincing to get the others to try it after they saw/heard me use it.

While watching them I actually saw a Shock Wave at the end of the gun when the fired it. BIG BANG

Interesting you should say that Hoagie! That's what I've been reviewing!!! Awesome weapon and will be my choice. I know other more experienced owners prefer something other than the .45, but I'm going with it. And if 7-8 plugs won't do it for me, then "Elizabeth, I'm comin to see ya! this is the big one!"

hoagie55, that CZ may be nice. But I bet its not as easy to get parts for. Kimber? Never heard of it.

The Barretta was chosen due to its extreme durability. I doubt price was a major concern. It was matched up against every known QUALITY 9mm out there. You can get a Taurus (clone of Barretta) for much less, but you still see Barretta's sold more often.

I think the 9mm for battle has one advantage over a 45. That being the capacity. Some 45's have been made to hold more rounds, but if you ever held one in your hand, its just too darn fat. Unless you have big hands, then its fine.

Mag

You can hit someone with a 9mm and they'll keep coming. A good reason to have a higher cap magazine than a .45

If you hit someone with a .45, you will spin them around and send them in the other direction.
There is a lot of energy in a .45 and if 7 or 8 rounds does not kill whatever I am aiming at, it does not need to be killed.

RDC...Would you volunteer for that test? I don't think that it's accurate.

You shoot ANYTHING 7-8 times then it BETTER be dead! BB-gun all the way to Howitzer.

A quote from the army, about the Berretta M9(92FS).

The U.S. Army put it this way: "Not in the post-World War II era, has an armorment been so extensively tested, nor likely before.

Whether in the field, or in continuous military assuredness testing, the M9 has set new records for reliability." End Quote.

Got almost as many guns as 'gars. Don't generally advertise what though. Prefer .45 pistols, 9mm small carbines, and 30.06 long guns.

I'm an armorer for Beretta (specifically the mod 92 and 96FS)...Kimber is an excellent manufacturer of Govt model 45's...A little expensive IMHO but the quality is there...A better Govt model 45 IMHO is Springfield Armory

Ouch...I think you insulted Beretta fans Mag...Taurus is the biggest POS manufacturer out there..Cheaply made...I know the Tauruses resemble Beretta 92/96's but they are unbelievably poorly made IMHO..Sloppy

Rayder, I've heard that rumor about the gang members practicing the removal of the slide assembly...It's never been documented...We use the Mod 96 (40 Cal) for on-duty and it's an excellent firearm!...I have tried that trcik on the range with an unloaded pistol and it's difficult but possible to do...I think that it's probably not a good idea to allow a gang member to get that close to you if you're pointing your firearm at him..Distance and a level 3 holster IMHO would probably safeguard against that maneuver

I shot a co-worker's Sig Sauer a few weeks ago and was undeniably impressed...I know that many LE organizations are goig to the Sigs, and I can see why...Very nice...Well made...Accurate as hell..I loved everything about it..A little pricier than other handguns, but for the quality, I think it's worth it!

Rookie, my intent was to point out that the Taurus IS inferior. Just didnt want to rip the heck out of it in case someone here owned one.

Of course I know the difference. Look at which one I own!

I own a Taurus PT-92 bought in '87 I believe. This was not too long after Taurus had bought all the tooling and specs from Beretta. I have shot 3,000-4,000 rounds thru this gun and have only had one jam. Which was due to the new handload I was working with ( I forgot to taper crimp the case after seating the bullet.)Checked out the rest of the clip and found all were like that. Lesson learned. I would recomend a Taurus to somebody looking to save a little money.

Also own,

Ruger Super blackhawk-44 mag
Ruger Gp-100-.357 mag
Colt Mustang - .380 auto
Numerous .22's, ruger's,browning.
