How many cigars is your humidor able to hold vs the number stated by the manufacturer or retailer? I realize that many factors are involved such as cigar length and ring size, and also how tightly you pack'em in there, but I've found a huge differnce in some of the claims. I recently purchased one that claimed it could hold 40. It has one divider on the bottom, a removable tray, and another small divider on the tray. I'm lucky to fit 20 average sized smoke COMFORTABLY. I think I could squeeze 40 lonsdales if I removed the dividers and the tray, but what's the point? They would be to tight to circulate the humidity. Has anybody else been so put-off by the totally bogus storage claims?

I think they get the capacity from the average size cigar, which is probably a lonsdale or corona. Either that or 40 butts from a churchill :]

before I bought my cabinet, I used over 20 humidors and not a single one came close to holding the number advertised. I even called on company on a humidor that was very small, that claimed it could hold 100! Maybe these companies think we are going to put White Owls in these humidors. Good side is that the company I bought my cabinet from claimed it could hold 2000 cigars, I have at least 2200 in it right now.

build a cooler 'dor. go buy a 150 qt. coleman ice chest, then make some credos using oasis foam and some tavell soap dishes or reusable sandwich containers. fit the oasis foam to the container and fill them with a mix of 50% distilled water and 50% propelyne glycol. then get yourself a good digital hygrometer. put the creedos and hygromete in the cooler, and presto! a humidor that holds at least 30 boxes of cigars for under 50 bucks! mine works great.

Thanks, but I already have a coolerdor. I am simply asking if everybody has had the same problems with their humidors in regards to bogus claims of capacity. My coolerdor, however, is not the 150 qt size. You say 30 boxes? are the sticks packed in fairly tight or do you keep them in the box or some of each?

To help with air circulation, I bought two wire racks for cooling cakes (10x101/2)and put them in the bottom of my 48qt coolerdors.

that is a fantastic idea, using the coolers as 'dors. I have an old 44qt coleman in the garage that has been dormant for over 10 years. I wonder howmany boxes I can stick in it! how many boxes can you guys get?
