I caught wind recently that some people won't be attending Big Smokes this year because Cigar Aficionado (or should that be "Aficionado of Things, Cigars Sometimes Included"?) has changed so much. I know some of you (such as KC's CA's) just attended the Cleveland Big Smoke. Does attendance seem low? Are some of you that normally attend these events not going this year? I'm going to the Dallas Big Smoke regardless, because I've never been to one. After hearing so much about these events, I hope I'm not disappointed!

when and where is the one in Dallas. I too have never been to one and would like to go to one. I just read about the one in Vegas and would love to attend one.

At Cleveland Smoke (incidentally) I heard they sold all 400 tickets that were on sale..As for the CA Big Smokes, I went to my first in Chicago in April of last year (which was the month when the "new" CA was unveiled, with Kevin Bacon on the cover, and it was a great time!...My feeling is that they make way too much money on the Big Smokes ($150 per person, with each session having approx (more like a very unofficial headcount/guesstimate) 400-800 people at each session (with two sessions per day) to change the format and thereby jeopardize any profits (or future profits)...but who knows?...They really did a number on that "magazine" of theirs..Anything is possible.

Almost forgot to correct CL's first post: The Cleveland Smoke was not a CA sponsored "Big Smoke" event...It was held by a local Cleveland cigar shop chain...The Big Smoke is definitely bigger, with much more people attending

Oops! I thought it was a "Big Smoke". It's good to hear they haven't diminished, even though the magazine may have. Anybody else been to one recently?

I am as disappointed in the magazine as anyone, but I wouldn't miss that kind of a party in protest.....

I'm going to go to the NY BigSmoke. I think it's important to support the event because it's basically the only cigar event that we have left. We can't let it die, even if the magazine does suck now. BTW, I heard from good sources that CigAf will be mildly reformatting their magazine to focus more on cigars and "the cigar lifestyle". Don't expect them to revert back to the old days, but it will be an improvement over the current confused-we-don't-know-who-or-what-our-market-is format they're putting out now.

I attended the Las Vegas Big Smoke a few months back. It was great!! I had the chance to meet up with Stan, a fellow Cigar Bid user. I am making plans to go again this year.

Good point, Hege. We need to keep this stuff alive for our sake. What better way to meet up with friends made here? I'll hit the Dallas BS this year. Hopefully next year I'll hit Chicago or the biggie in LV.
