JonR, thank you for serving your country sir. I'm 44 and was too young at the time. When I turned 18 in fact, they had just suspended the draft. When I was 21, they reinstated it. But it was required for 18 and 19 yr old to register, and then the next year when you turned 18. I was in a very narrow window of individuals who never actually had to even register. I don't discount the contribution of those who did and were drafted, or those who volunteered. I think it's a very noble choice. My little brother just retired from the Navy. He joined when he was 18. They screwed him up pretty good with lack of competent medical care, but that's another story. George Orwell said, "People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf." I believe truer words were never spoken.
