Just bought Johnny Cash's new one "American IV: The Man Comes Around" and it's a masterpiece. I don't use that term lightly. Great covers that you wouldn't expect from JC like Trent Reznor's "Hurt" and Depeche Mode's "Personal Jesus" and more traditional stuff like "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry". Great originals too. The title track is full of images from the book of Revelation. If you only buy one CD this year, this is the one.

Cash's voice is wasted, harsh, and beautiful, like a well-aged smokey scotch. Stunning.

I haven't bought a CD/Record or anything by the Man in Black for 20 years or more, but this posting intrigues me, so I guess I will spring for it!

Thanks for the update Jim.

I have a friend, Deane that plays guitar for "**** Sons of Johnny Cash"...John Carter Cash actually produced several of their tracks...Johnny is ok with the name BTW...

It's a GREAT band. If you like C&W and/or Rock, you'll like them (especially if you like Waylon, Willie, and Kris - as they put it)...check them out at www.bsojc.com

He's the one in the archway on their homepage.

Nice review, JReddoch. I am tempted too and have never bought a Cash recording. Listened to more than a few. The man has a voice.

If you like Cash check out "Unchained". Great originals and covers and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers backing him up. Fantastic CD!
