What year do you think he started using steroids? How about Sosa, and McGuire?? Drug testing is a must to maintain the purity of the sport and the quality of the milestones.

Chris, there isnt any proof of it. Until there is, Bonds and the rest should be thought of as innocent until proven guilty.

Or is that "right", something that you think is only for the "average" citizen.

Oh, by the way "purity in sports". Thats almost a laugh. Professional sports of all kinds lost their purity a long time ago. Dont kid yourself.

The game has changed a lot, and I think the stories that have come out are too frequent to be idle rumors. Why did the players union fight drug testing so harshly, every other sport does it.

Bring some of the purity back!!

Going to a live baseball game you can still see some of the purity, it's an incredible sport. I just think trying to get more purity back would be better for the sport.

Don't get me wrong, bonds has always been a great athlete, but he ballooned up in a short time, especially for his age.

Yes as you say "stories", those dont count. Facts do count. And steroid testing has loopholes too.

cwilhelmi, actually, it appears that steroids may not be as widely abused as once thought.

Instead, it seems to be more likely that the "drugs of choice" for most is several things, first, they seem to like using "Human growth hormone"; a mixture of chemicals that allow rabid growth of muscle mass, Erythropoietin; which allows for faster production of red blood cells, helping the creation of muscle mass, and mainly, the use of cartilage pills; both shark and cow cartilage are the most popular, the both increase the creation of muscle mass quickly.

While most of these drugs are banned in most sports, it seems none of them are banned by the MLB.

These drugs lead to serious problems with "gigantism" and back and joint problems.

This would explain why McGuire ended up with STRETCH marks on his neck from "swelling" along with very serious back and joint problems.

I would bet that Bonds, Sosa, McGuire... along with most of todays power hitters have passed up steroids for the most part and have gone directly to this 'cocktail' instead. It has fewer direct side-effects and will provide almost the same results.

I despise the Giants and Bonds (life long Dodger fanatic), but I really don't see him as a steroid case. He just isn't that big. His swing is lightning quick; that is where the power comes from. Plus, 370 last year? Damn. That ain't the steroids talking.

It pains me to say this, as I so despise all Giants, but Bonds may be the best player in the history of the game. Only his uncle Willie Mays and Hank Aaron have much of a case against him. I can say this: there is no rival in the past 30 years. Category by himself.

5 MVPs? 8 Gold Gloves? And remember he got these awards while being an IMMENSELY unpopular player in the press.

A jerk, a Giant (that is redundant for a Dodger fan), but the best. And I don't see him as a steriod case, really.

Man, I am SO happy it is baseball season!

softfiz, where did you get this information from?

Growth hormone isnt a mix of chemicals. It comes from the pituitary gland from other humans.

I dont know where synthetic growth comes from, it may be a combination of chemicals.

Growth hormones do have side affects. GH affects bone growth, not just muscle.

In some cases it can do things like make your head grow larger. This is why some users get the gap between thier 2 front teeth. Others may show signs of an enlarged forehead or knuckles.

Growth hormone isnt as easy to detect the use of, since our bodies naturally produce it.

Like I said before, if there isnt proof of it, then it should be assumed that there isnt any illegal drug use.

Yes I do believe that "some" use steroids. But to use a blanket statement, about all the homerun hitters using them, thats not fair.

Supplements have come a long way in the last 10 years. Creatine is a big muscle booster. And there are plenty of others which are legal. Mcwire used androstenodine. In Barry's case, there is an evolution of physique. He is stronger and fitter. The parks are smaller. I have lifted weights for 20 years. I weigh 50lbs. more now than then. Is this evicence I've used steroids? Or evidence I train hard and eat too much? It's the latter. The young fellas that gain 25 lbs. of muscle in a year? It depends. There are signs.

Of course, in the pic above, Barry's head DOES seem out of proportion to his body. Maybe that is a clue.

Steriods Schmeriods!

The guy can hit, PERIOD! As a baseball player, when I was younger, and coach for the last 10 years I have learned one thing, if you can hit, you can hit. I dont care if you put a broom stick in his hand and not feed him for a week, he would still be one the most dangerous hitters of all time. Short, quick, compact, POWERFUL swing. If hes roiding up, which I doubt, its only going to make his 435 homeruns travel 455 feet. Hitting a baseball is the hardest thing to do in sports and he does it as good as anyone EVER!

SO THERE!

The head of this bobble head doll (Bonds, Barry Bonds) is not big enough, needs to be a little bigger so his over regarded image of himself will fit inside.

Thanks for the posting. LOL

Damn! Loss #2, hehehe!

Well I guess I'll have to settle for 160-2 record this season. Hehehe!(just kidding)

Still won the series between the Giants and Expos. I usually like to end a series with a win though.

Reported today, was that the Giants have won the last ten series in a row since last season.

Giants vs Dodgers in LA next!! A tough test.

GO GIANTS!!!

MAG

PS: You guys are going to hate my guts by the end of the season, with all my updates! Hehehe! I cant help it though!!

OK..I'll go out on a very long thin limb here in a wind storm with lightening and hail and say the "struggling" Diamondbacks will spank the Giants this year..
BWAAAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! So There!

Just my 2c on the steroid issue. Many people in many occupations must be tested at one time or another, myself included. For people in sports, any sports, to think they are above it or refuse to do it casts doubt in my mind as to their legitimacy and character and their message to youth of this country to stay off drugs. If they have nothing to hide, then "just do it" and get it over with. Again, IMHO.
