E-Chick, probably not. You lose points in that show for Silicon. Plus, you should see the people they vote out.

I'm about sick of Ducati right now. my son has a 2000 monster 900 that's been in the shop for over a month waiting on a clutch basket. It only has 6000 miles on it and the clutch is busted. It's still under warranty. We've been emailing and calling their parts department for two weeks trying to find out what's going on. Never get an answer. So I guess there's another company on my list that I'll talk bad about for the rest of my life. Customer service is everything.

Talk to Mitch at corsesuperbikes.com in Wisconsin. Tell him Scott Smith told you about his shop. I blew up my Ducati 851 valve train at 125mph passing 50 Harleys...yes, they did laugh at me...and they treated me great! It is difficult dealing with Italians, but if you want bulletproof, buy Japanese. The only problem is...with Japanese, like excuses...everyone has one. Ducati owners are a special kind of motorcyclist, a true enthusiast, as I am sure your son is. I bet he has more fun on that Ducati than his friends on those Jap bikes. God bless him.

Guys, guys, guys. Motorcycle? Ducati? I only see the BABE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Her picture alone should be enough to resolve any consternation regarding clutches.

Come on Scott, I've never owned an Italian Bike, but consider myself a true enthusiast. I owned my first Honda 50cc mini at 10 or 11 yrs old.

I've had 8 bikes. If Ducati would make a 4cyl motor, I bet more Japanese bike owners would take a look at Ducati's.

Some guys, like myself have had V-Twins and just dont like them. Nothing wrong with V-Twins, but not my preference. Just my opinion.

Also in general, you get much more bang for your buck with a rice rocket.

Dont get me wrong, Ducati's are VERY nice. But not for everybody's budget.

If you ride, and enjoy the wind in your face, I dont care what you ride, you are an enthusiast.

Sorry Mag, I didn't mean to exclude Japanese bikes from the ranks of true enthusiasts. In my opinion, Ducatis do require more commitment from the rider. They are higher maintenance, parts are more difficult to get, etc. I will be the first to admit that the Japanese four cylinder bikes are the best performance per dollar bikes out there, and require very little maintenance. But they do suffer in the intangibles, they just don't seem as fun to me.

Mike, jump on a Ducati 996, or even better, the new 999 and tell me what you think. I bet you will be owning a twin real soon. Happy riding to you too.

Too bad her body cost more than the Ducati.
-Yamaha FJR1300, cause nothing beats 145 HP with hard bags and 200 mile range.

My father just bought an FJR1300. The 145hp is great, but it is a little too heavy and soft for me. I am sure when I get his age, I will have such a bike.

HIS AGE!?!?!? I'm not exactly an old fart here. LOL It's not like a Goldwing or a UltraGlide Classic, my young friend, it'll do 0-60 in a hair over 3 seconds and out-corner most Gixxer's (of course, skill has a lot to do with that). Just last night I ate a Gixxer 600 and a TL1000 for a snack. The adjustable windshield makes it ideal for long travel, but I prefer just to putter around the island.

LOL...you may have out-cornered a GSXR, but the FJR1300 didn't. Otherwise, we would see FJRs racing in AMA Superbike. The windshield is nice though.

Mag,

When I woke up this morning, it was 17 degrees F outside. It snowed on Friday. It should get better this week, 60 by Friday.

Ducati996- Ok, you got me. I agree that we'll never see an FJR in the AMA. Most Europeans who own one end up mounting GPS receivers on them and wandering the countryside (we're fortunate to live in a country that can afford street signs I guess). The FJR is just too heavy to do any serious competition, but it's still the coolest bike I've seen in a long time IMHO.

Scott,

Thanks for the help. Our local shop finally got the part we needed from the guys at Corse. My son got his bike back on Saturday. I sent some nasty emails to Ducati USA and Ducati Italy letting them know what I think of their lousy customer service.
