Time to pull the cobwebs off the rods and tackle. My son and I are heading to Catalina Island to do a bit of fishing for a couple days. Last summer my son got to go on a private charter for some serious sport fishing (lucky skunk!). He caught the biggest fish of the cruise--this 30 lb. yellowtail (with a little help from the deckhand also pictured). Criminey, it's bigger than he is.

Oh yeah, very tasty indeed. The kid also caught a few 15-28 lb. albacore which were also phenomenal grilled. I marinated one huge piece of the albacore in teriyaki and garlic before grilling--man, that was memorable!

Mikey (17) and his G/F went out on a 3/4 day out of Daveys Locker(Newport Beach) yesterday and caught a mess of Blue Perch, not much of a fight but very tasty none the less.Good luck at Catalina.

Hey Marla,

My son's been buggin' me forever to head down your way to do some fishing. If we make it down there sometime this summer, I'll give you a holler.

And yes, there was sushi a plenty after that trip. The blue fin tuna that another relative caught was especially popular with everyone!

JJ, I used to fish out of Davey's Locker on occasion when I used to live in Huntington.

Nice yellowtail, We used to bring wasabi out on the boat and would slice up fresh yellowtail for sashimi and pig out (a few beers would also be consumed).

Q. What did God say when Eve walked into the lake?

A. Now I'll never get that smell out of the fish.
