Satisfied from a full meal, kids down for the night, a beautiful Northern California evening, it was herfing time. It was 11:30, my palate clean has I had not ventured into my collection of humi’s since Sunday afternoon. I go up stairs and open humidor #1 and retrieve the evenings smoke, a Bucanero Clasico Maduro. With a fine single barrel beverage in hand, I venture to my favorite spot to enjoy the leaf. With my woman by my side, a 5 Vegas Panatela in her grasp, the South Bay foothills in full view, I put flame to the foot of this fine looking cigar. The smoke billowed from the Clasico as I take my first draw, the palate heightened as the smoke enters my mouth. What would the Clasico bring with its beautiful cloud of smoke from finely blended tobaccos? My heart races, my body tingling, could THIS be the Bucanero that brings me to the open seas!?! As I continued to smoke the cigar, there was something missing. I took another long slow draw, still something missing. I handed it to the beauty to my left and asked her opinion as to what she thought it was. I waited as the ash burned brightly as I watched the plumes of smoke rise from the burning leaves. She exhales, checks the palate, and says, “Ya know what’s missing…TASTE”. AH YES, TASTE! That one ingredient that I look for in a cigar, the ever important taste!
To this I say AAAARRRGGGackackack…
Let me sum it up this way after trying 4 of these cigars…Its like jumping into a classic 1969 Mustang Boss 429, starting it, and then realizing it had a 4 banger under the hood. It tries to be a full bodied smoke, a bit peppery at first with some bite, but the finish just isn’t there. Very Blah. And what’s with the grit? Might as well buy Mayorgas for a third the price. Just not a great smoke IMHO. Its ok, I didn’t throw it into the butt can half way thru, and I like full smokes. Just wish I would have grabbed the Partagas Black instead.
Peace Out
