On Tuesday, I left North West Missouri and drove to Devil's Tower. Then we went through the Black Hills to see Rushmore and down through the Sand hills and Grasslands of North West Nebraska. At 3:00 this morning I set on a bluff that I could see 70 miles in all directions and looked at the stars and watched a storm roll across the prairie. Now I'm home.
I think if more people went out and actually saw this breathtakingly beautiful country of ours instead of fighting about it on the intertubes, the world would be a better place. I talked to a lot of people over the last few days and oddly enough, not once, did I hear anything political. Everyone was too busy enjoying the magnificent bounty that is the United States |

I wholeheartedly agree with your experience.   |

I plan to do a road trip to visit some National Parks in AZ, New Mexico, Utah and Colorado before the end of the year. Hope to stay healthy enough to visit all 48 of the contiguous US. I've toured Alaska, visited Hawaii numerous times, and stopped in the US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico while on a cruise... |

Sadly, I had never seen anything of the West before the last couple of days so I wanted to pack in quite a bit of stuff. We were gonna hit the Bad Lands as well but they are for a different time as it was just too much. Rushmore was cool but it paled compared to the NATURAL beauty of the Black Hills. Breathtaking. If anyone is contemplating going there, stay the hell out of Deadwood. All kinds of construction going on and I'm not sure I've seen a bigger tourist trap. Ugh. We got out as quickly as we could. I DO suggest a burger at the Knuckle in Sturgis and also at the Sugar Shack on rt 385 in the Black Hills. Met a lot of great people and had a lot of great experiences. We are already planning our next trip. |

I enjoy when I have the time to stop and check things out, last year I went through Nebraska and the historical markers actually had room for me to pull off with my truck (semi) and look and read things. It was one of my favorite trips. It’s cool to see different things everyday, I can tell you one thing for sure a lot of small town America is dying or gone, it is depressing to go through some areas. |

It's an amazing feeling to be away from all the world's craziness and alone with the wild earth. Nothing else like it. Feels a million light years away... Moving specifically to get closer to all I want to experience and explore. And spend as much time as I can there. |

I agree wholeheartedly. This country is filled with amazing beauty. And I also like the variety of things. Desert and cacti in Arizona and the painted buttes and cliff face Pueblos of New Mexico. The mountains and great salt lake of Utah. The Grand Canyon. The little towns that dot Nebraska, Kansas, and Iowa. The bayous of Louisiana.
And don’t even get me started on the historical sites - civil war battlefields, Tombstone, the Alamo, the plantations of South Carolina.
But, most importantly, the people. Grab a cigar and talk to people.
Next week, I’m back to New Orleans with a side trip to Mississippi. |

Next week, I’m back to New Orleans with a side trip to Mississippi. Couldn't have said it better. I'll happily argue with someone if they wish but there is a time and place. I shared those experiences with not only my wife but with other Americans or other people also enjoying out beautiful country. I met no enemies nor did I make any. There is a lot of ugly in the world but there is more beauty. Just gotta make sure you can see it. Gotta have the right kind of eyes and I pray to God, I never lose mine. |
