Love NY. He can't sing worth squat, but great lyricism.

Old Man is my favorite.

The Heavy.

Like yesterday's Monophonics, I'm not sure how to pigeonhole these guys. Great music, whatever it is.

I agree NY's voice is ,um, different, but who could sing his songs any better?
Old Man, gives me good memories of my Dad...we were very different from each other then, but "Now, I'm a lot like he was"fog

I love the live version of Old Man, when he was super young (no pun intended)...

I went to Desert Trip years ago. Did you hear about it?
One of... NO, the BEST concert I will ever go to.

Inspired by all this Neil Young talk:

Neil Young - Live Rust

Many moons ago, when I worked in a record store, one of my co-workers used to play this every time we worked together so I heard this album couple times a week. ‘Course, as a Neil fan too, I didn’t have any objections. ThumpUp

listened to one of three I got from the library, don't remember which...as familiar and comfortable as this style is, they seem to bring some changes to my ears' normal sense of timing, or the singer is less structured...or it could be the acid.
will post after a relisten and the other two hit the player.

agree, but his "phrasing" is sometimes out of sync or something. Truthfully, I wasn't fully focused, was in the car, taking calls, getting aggravated and stuff.
But my comments are not necessarily negative.

After dinner smoke, out on the driveway.

Rolling Stones - Forty Licks

A while back, I took the songs and put them in chronological order. Burned a couple of discs and then completely forgot where I put them. Ran across them last weekend. I know, kinda OCD but that’s how I roll sometimes.

Had a chance to see the original lineup back in ‘71 but for whatever reason, chose to not go. Maybe because Three Dog Night was also on the bill.

If you have Netflix, I’d recommend “Now More Than Ever: The History of Chicago”. I learned quite a lot about the group and some of the members.

I'll have to check it out. Though not sure how much left to learn after listening to my dad spew little factoids before, during and after the show (actual number of "facts" in those factoids still to be determined). He paid to do the picture with the band afterwards and claims Pankow remembered him when he said his name (stated earlier somewhere in one of these threads that dad went to high school with Pankow). Whether that was true or just humoring an old fan, it put a smile on pop's face for the rest of the night, so good on him. Overall, they played enough of the ballads to make my wife happy, and did enough of the early stuff as well as some incredible soloing to make me and the old man happy.

Oh, that’s right. I remember you mentioning that about your Dad. Hopefully Pankow wasn’t bs’ing and really did remember him.

Porcupine Tree. Huh. Never heard of them. Listened to Half Light live, then Anesthetize. Loved it. Very ethereal, dreamy sound. Then gets heavier. I’ll be listening to more later tonight. With a drink and a smoke, of course. Thanks CelticBomber!
