My dtr is turnin 5 this summer. She always has a pool party at our house. This year i want to try some gold fish in the pool for that day but i dont know how long they will last in there with all the chemicals. Has anyone ever tried this? I figure i will put in a couple hundred fish. Bill |

they will die VERY QUICKLY!!! a terrible idea, i must say (though your intentions are good). chlorine kills EVERYTHING, which is why we put it in pools--to kill bacteria and microscopic organisms...as fish are quite a bit bigger, well, they will die in a BAD way...just cruel, really. story time. so, i am a chem major doing a summer internship before my senior year. i go around to different bodies of water to kill algae and other plant life. i get to this pond where people swim (lifeguards and all). the head lifeguard--high school dolt says that he thinks MY chemicals are killing the fish. i said i had never been there before, but it is ridiculous nonetheless. i asked if anything stange had happened--no. had they done anything to the pond? he said no...we just started putting chlorine in a couple of weeks ago...i flipped out..."well, you know they put it in pools, so it must be ok." the real shock ofr me is that someone is actually the boss--and he purchased chlorine FOR them. now, i am not calling you a dolt...just informing you that it is my educated belief that you will have a goldfish genocide on your hands BEFORE the party ends...and it might, in fact, end the party. go with tons of silver balloons instead--NO CLOWNS! nothing scarier than a clown...but that is another story! |

ya guess its a bad idea, but i think it would be cool. Didnt know if fish would make it the day. It would scar the kids forever to be swimmin with 200 dead gold fish. And for clowns "OH NO" the scare the hell out of me. thanks Burgess Bill |

I remember a pool party for my YMCA group at a members house. His father put a bunch (10-20) of goldfish into the pool. We chased them around trying to catch them. Although the chlorine did not kill them, the image of fish being squished against the tiles by 10 year old boys trying to grab them is burned into my brain. 40 years later. |

billg , test your idea while nobody is around! get about 10 or so and let'em go! see how long they make it without the young'uns around ......then you can decide. if they die quick you can skim them out before anyone is the wiser. thank's for the chuckle! i think it might work if the clorine wasn't real strong and the water was cool. but as the day progresses....and water warms up... dem fishies are gonna die! imagine being one of those poor little fishies when that chubby kid see's it and does a cannonball!!! |

i kinda like dup's idea...i am a scientist...experimentation is good. time it for me, will ya? i reckon if you skipped a chlorine treatment or 2, that may change teh time of death...very intriguing! |

ruggsgirl has an outstanding idea! the only thing i have against a ton of thigs floating ON the water is the off chance that a kid falls in, and no one notices the splash...well, there is not worse thing on this earth that the frantic search for the missing kid...and then finding them. cute idea, but you need to be able to see the WHOLE of teh pool clearly. |
22. Author: KarenMarie | Date: Sun, 5/28/2006, 8:33PM EST
Why dont you buy a cheap aquarium and put the fish in there and then offer each kid a goldfish as a party favor? Just have lots of plastic bags with ties handy...Goldfish can survive in just about anything EXCEPT chlorine... I used to raise them.... |

LMAO at Sumrao.....One of my favorite movies, and now to the fish thing: Any thing you do whether it is killing the fish in the pool or giving them as party favors, they are dead... I do not understand what could possibly be "cute" or "sweet" about this idea and think you need to consider Piranaha or alligators to really heighten the entertainment, and give a survival prize to the kids who get through the ordeal... Charlie |
29. Author: Charlie | Date: Mon, 5/29/2006, 6:32AM EST
Next year you could have an avoid the Grizzly contest or pat the wolf on the head as they are just as lame brained of ideas..... Just have the party and let the kids have fun without added stress of seeing fish die.... Charlie |
30. Author: Sumrao | Date: Mon, 5/29/2006, 8:41AM EST
Party favors, that's hillarious..why not, that kid is probably not going to have many friends anyway. I can see the MasterCard add: The Idea to celebrate life with 200 deaths; FREE Reducing a fish’s life to that of a fruit fly: POCKET CHANGE Memories that good money cant erase:….TRULY PRICELESS Evidence that most children’s issues can be traced back to parents.
