Just wondering

Steny Hoyer seems willing to negotiate with Trump and McConnell to pass a spending bill that Trump will sign. Pelosi is adamantly against giving Trump a dime for a wall. Many Democrats are saying a wall/fence is needed in and near populated areas.

It’s a long shot, but perhaps there will be a call in the House for another speaker election. Hoyer, given that he would more than likely get all the Republican votes and peel off enough Democrats that are willing to seek common ground to win the Speakership?

we do need some additional barriers near populated areas as well as in other areas where visible evidence of numerous crossings have been identified by the Border Patrol...those additional barriers can be part of a package of border security expenses, which are already in the budget, but which could be increased through negotiation...

will Trump's base accept a partial wall... one that isn't as big, beautiful and long as he said it would be...

he has already walked back his original idea of a tall and thick impenetrable concrete wall...seems steel slats are now OK...

some pretty weird stuff being floated by the new blood...

betcha the right is as taken aback now as the left was when Trump came to office and opened his mouth...so far there haven't been the huge protest rallies though that marked the beginning of Trump's term, so that is a sign...

eventually the pendulum shifts will become less extreme and a more moderate tone will emerge...I hope...

all the attention has gone to the newly elected far left in Congress, but far more of the new members are considered to be moderates.
This will eventually play out.

Tump is/was wrong for his everything stance. Pelosi is/was wrong for her nothing stance. Anyone willing to work towards an acceptable compromise for both sides is right.

Al, I don’t hope for that......everyone needs to be accountable to the law, and oaths need to be upheld. Oath breakers deserve a tall tree and a short piece of rope.

the stances are what they are as far as negotiating border security vs border wall.

The "wrong" is involving unrelated parts of the government.

And I know it isn't the first time a POTUS has held people hostage

Re: #3 for Al.

Abso-fkn-lutely. ANYTHING is better than nothing. Intermittent barriers can act as funnels to make border patrol's job easier. We can fill in the gaps later, but for now I will accept a partial "wall" whether it's brick, concrete, fence, steel slats... it's worked in San Diego. Lets keep doing what works.

what if Mexico doesn't do its part............................................you know..................................................................pay...

I don't trust those Mexicans... I think they're going to skip out on the bill.

How about this... Trump can get his wall if we get payment in advance from the Mexicans. That way we can make sure those damn Mexicans don't make president trumpypants look bad by refusing to pay after it's built.
