I've had to do that twice. They're cool about it, as long as you don't do it constantly.

I saw that happen on another site a long time ago and someone other than a site member eventually out bid the beggar.
I have overbid somewhat a couple of times several years ago, but not by much so I took my losses and haven't screwed up since. But I keep checking here just in case.
