Air Fryers

I just bought a cheepo to try with halibut, salmon and sweet potatoe fries (Being a Dan Quayle fan I'm not sure I spelt it right).

I think I read some in here are using one. I've not yet tried it. Any suggestions?

I've made russet potato fries, fried fish and scallops...loved the results and will not go back to using a frying pan for that...

read the manual for cooking times, pre-heating and other cooking tips...may differ depending on make and model...

Wife seems convinced that we should probably get one. Problem is counter/storage space. Aint got none. At all.

I read great reviews about the Mealthy for our Instapot, so I bought one of those....half the price of a fryer and a quarter the space.

It was pretty useless. Tried it three times on three different foods before telling Amazon to take it back.

So....at this point, I'm not sure if it was the air-frying that we don't really like....or if the universe is wrong about Mealthy and its just a pos

+1 definitely use the preheat, or things don't come out quite right

hmmmmmm, good to know, I was looking into the Mealthy, but I'm gonna put it on hold now until I hear more reviews from people I trust....TY

My suggestion is to take it outside to cook your food because of the smell. Smoking cigars in the kitchen makes the house reek and since you aren't tied to being in the kitchen sitting on the patio cooking dinner while enjoying a cigar is the way to go with these things.

We absolutely love ours. We even use it to heat up leftover fries from the restaurant. Those things in the microwave suck to the point we stopped bringing them in the doggie bag but the fryer makes them tastes like they did at dinner last night.

O bought an off brand (gowise) 5.8 qt at tuesday morning ...... yea im effiminate and actually like that place.

It gets 4 out of 5 stars on amazon and was $55 bucks. I may regret not getting another brand though.

I have no kitchen space either. I plan on keeping it in it's box in the basement like I do the electric roaster and the crock pots. No big deal to bring it up when needed.

Doing a test run on sweet potatoe fries right now. 20 minutes at 400 degrees.

I finally broke down and got myself a Thermapen classic... and now I have a bluedot bluetooth alarm thermometer coming tomorrow, too.

I barbecue enough, I probably should have got them sooner. The impetus was the lavatool thermometer I got off Amazon. That thing worked once or twice then started jumping from one temp to another. piece o crap.

Burnt the fries. Too long.

I have a love hate relationship with my thermapen.

I love my air-fryer, but just like any new gadget, it takes some getting used to and experimentation.
I've found that the "temp and time" guidelines that came with the fryer are usually too hot and too long, so I keep that in mind when cooking a new food for the first time.
And FTR . . . I STILL prefer my breaded chicken cutlet and breaded flounder fried in oil !

Me too. We brought about 65-70 pounds of it home. Not really sure. Only about 30-35 pounds of coho salmon.
17. Author: frankj1Date: Thu, 9/12/2019, 2:45PM EST
can you cook fish in the air fryer without "frying" it?
don't own one (yet) and we eat a lot of fish, but very little fried.
Use the grill, the oven, or a skillet.

Love my Thermapens. I've got the dual probe smoke too, bought it before they bluetooth enabled it but I have a gateway so it connects to the phone. Absolutely love that thing. fog

We're mixed on the Air Fryer. Some stuff is pretty good, but my wife is seriously disappointed as the veggies fries she really bought the damn thing for are soggy. Our kitchenaid convection oven does a much better job. So it's now sitting on the counter. Dusting.

I've found it's really good for reheating french fries and stuff without making them soggy... the top tray gets hotter so if you're cooking lots of stuff you need to rotate trays.. [mellow

Brand suggestions?

nah.
I'm on the committee that searches for and removes fake or incorrectly accused libs (like tw, and probably Victor) from the membership list.

of course, this means the end of free stuff for them, so we do offer a slow transition to reduce trauma...cuz we care and stuff.
