"Hello, I was told that someone was planning on doing a mass shooting on Sunday at the fairgrounds. I just wanted to inform you guys already."
These are the words a 22 year-old Southern California man e-mailed to Los Angeles County Fair staff on Friday afternoon. Why? He didn't want to go to the fair with his mom and dad.
According to authorities, Erik Villasenor was identified through an e-mail address as well as digital footprint as being the creator of the alarming e-mail. Once taken into custody, Villasenor admitted the information he relayed to fair officials was in fact untrue. He admitted he was attempting to get the threat on the news so that he could use it as an excuse to not go to the fair with his mommy and daddy.
Ironically, it worked; Eric's threat did make the news, he didn't have to go to the fair with his parents, and the LAPD was kind enough to give the young man at least a couple of nights away from his parents house.
