Morning, all you gents, been a while.
252. Author: danmdevriesDate: Sun, 1/26/2020, 9:31AM EST
Can't wait till this work stretch is over. It's been awful. The last few months have been bad, this week may be the worst yet.

Tonight we're critically short staffed. Offering double time and nobody wants to come in to the bullchit. I have 3 patients that need 1:1 nurse:patient ratios. I have 7 patients that need 1:2 or 1:3. I have 4 nurses and zero aides on staff tonight....

Hope they can figure out a fix in the next few hours. I'm gonna sleep and do my best again tonight.

Nothing to watch on tv today. Highlights will be eating burgers, de-icing the driveway and dog walking.
Big breakfast and shaving of my melon completed.

Are you under contract with your hospital and you cannot leave? I'd imagine there have to be better or at least different types of problems you might like to have with a change of scenery.

now I feel bad for taking a three week vacation...
261. Author: MACSDate: Sun, 1/26/2020, 2:27PM EST
^You're on permanent vacation, Al. You just changed locations for 3 weeks.

Dan... I understand, bro... which is why I am away from work at the moment, and have decided I don't want to work there any more. When I return to work mid February, I will submit my intent to retire for May 20th.

Too young to sit at home, but I may do just that for a few months so I have time to fish while the fishing is good.

I'll figure out something to do.

Sounds like a great plan MAC, you won't regret it. Wishing you well.

Smoking Tri-tip and Brats. Should be really good for dinner tonight. Looking for a good bottle of wine to go with it, it appears to be a choice between a Wilamette Valley Vineyards Pinot Noir, 2006, and a 14 hands Chardonnay.

Man my wife loves Tri-tips. Hard to find here in fly-over country. They all go to Kali.

Sounds like a great dinner to me. I just baked off a couple of loaves of sourdough, A french baguette and getting ready to roast the chicken for my week's lunches. Going to have the left over hodgepodge soup (Kent Rollin's version) from yesterday most likely for supper.

Then bourbon experiments for dessert. I finally broke down and got a set of Glencairn glasses. So I'm going to do a comparison tonight between those, the rocks glass, and a wine glass. Inquiring minds want to know. Well, my wife anyway as she sees those as a waste of time and money. LOL.

Luddites. d'oh!

^^^^^^^^^This!

If you have to put fruit in your beer to make it drinkable, bad beer.

If you have to but flavor in your coffee? It's bad coffee.

Steak Sauce? Bad steak.

It pretty much works across the board. Frying pan

Days/weeks/months like this come and go. They're super stressful and stuff but this too shall pass.

In 2014-15 there was a stretch of 5-6 months non stop hardcore staffing issues with over the top patient acuity. It was crisis mode every single day. I took a completely different job, travelling between all the regional hospitals to do bedside dialysis. But that too had its issues that pushed me back to where I am.

Probably won't be able to do this job forever, but for now it gives me the most amount of off time compared to clock time and almost no on-call. I hate being on call. Someday I might move into a procedural area to get away from some of this, but I'll have to take call again.

@ USNGunner, yeah, Tri-tip is one of my favorite things to toss on the smoker. I love to use a mixture of Mesquite and Southern Pecan wood. I then salt and pepper to taste and let it smoke at 200 degrees for 3+ hours.

Nice. That's how I do mine when I can get it as well. Salt and pepper. I alternate between smoker and grill. Or a combination, but always lump charcoal. Or actual hardwood.

I really like the sear off the grill. That's me though.

Want a job parent sitting in Wisconsin for the second half of February? There would be no money, but you could be in Wisconsin in February. A unique opportunity for a young go getter like you.

And if you act now, on your deathbed, you will receive Total Consciousness. So you have that to look forward too.... which is nice.

On call is awful. Had one job like that. Always seemed to get buzzed at the worst times. At least your madness is schedule.

You see, I grew up in cold weather... and I fkn hate it.

Days when I'd be on call with nothing else going on - never called in.

Days on call when I had things to do - always called in. Often times ended up working 18-20+ hours and still had to work my scheduled 14 the next day. I slept in my truck a few times.

Whats all this talk of retiring. Who gonna pay for my SS?

Gotta get up on the roof and re-coat the patio roof portion today. Everything else is tile but the extension is flat and has not been done in a few years. Weather going to be in the low 70s all week and the Phoenix Open is starting. We'll be going a couple of days to party with about 500K others.
