Cut the grass today. Trimmed and edged the sidewalks and all. Took me about 90 minutes total, as I went slowly. Heart rate barely got up into the 100's for 3 minutes total, which is a yuge improvement. I'm a bit sore, but I've been pretty sedentary for about 3+ weeks so I think that's normal.

Walking the dog I got 23 minutes in the fat burn zone. Figured pushing a mower would do more than 3... but whatever.

Savoies is the best I can get in a regular grocery store here. I can get Conecuh in a Latin grocery store.

Youse have more room up there for snow 🌨 Bucky.

No snow, but it's sposta rain tonight and tomorrow morning. Fine by me... if I don't have to walk da puppy dog in da morning, I just might sleep in.

Had a horrible day of sleep. Went to bed at 0830 plenty tired and fell asleep quickly. Woke up at 1030 and then at least hourly after that. Cold sweats mostly. My reynauds keeps getting worse as I get older too. 3 fingers on the right hand completely white numb and cold. Skin is starting to peel off the index finder.

Anyway. Back to work.

Re: MACS, I'm not 100% against snow. I like the fresh snow. It looks pretty, has a peaceful calming effect, the essentially dead silence outside as it quiets things down. When my kids were young it was awesome doing snowball fights, building snow forts and stuff. You are never too old for a nice snowball fight and snow forts. Then the fun drifts into work to snow blowing and shoveling, driving in the crappy roads and the nice clean snow turns into dark snow with the sand and salt from the clearing the roads.

On a positive note, although they are calling for more snow in central MA, is it predicted to be light and fluffy rather than the coast that will have less snow but wet and heavy.

Bought my son some snow tires for his car this past summer too but he's been lax on getting them put on. I kept reminding him to put them on earlier rather than later but he hasn't yet. Maybe this little storm will push him to take it over the goal line and get it done.

All this talk of snow has me craving some crack...

I think it's 99% nightshift. When I'm off I tend to sleep well or at least better. This past week off i slept 10p-5a every day. I've always been a sweaty sleeper tho. The boy's a sweaty sleeper too. It's just harder to deal with in the winter cause I can't throw the covers off and let it evaporate, I stay sealed up marinating in my own juices.

Reynauds thing unrelated and been under treatment for years. Just gets worse in the winter.

Looking at dayshift jobs. I think I need to just appreciate the years of my week on week off schedule and go work like a normal person again.

Danm: It IS, in fact, 99% night shift. It's why I hated night shift so much. It is so hard on your body, especially when you're north of 40. I was always tired.

Spent the last 60 hours intervening to encourage my daughter to break-up with her fiance- thank Good! Took a lot of pressure, but in the end she admitted/realized we are right, even though she hurts terribly. Wife and son drove her back down to Boca Raton and back up to Orlando yesterday. She told him face to face and gave him the ring back. She has saved herself a most certain divorce-(possibly with children). Hardest thing I have ever done in my life.

Haven't smoked a cigar in like 10 days. Need to fire one up, but it's going to rain all day which, means 100% RH. Don't like exploded/unraveling or swollen and cracked cigars.

Don’t think I’ve ever driven through there. Been loading in Siler City, NC at a chicken plant a lot lately. If I’m coming from the west I usually run I-40 and empty out around Asheville, Greenville or Charlotte before picking up at the chicken plant. Sometimes when I’ve been home and leave my house I run up through Atlanta with a load that empties in the same area.

However, this time they sent me west from home to Quartzsite, AZ where I swapped trailers with another driver. He’s going to make the 3 California stops and I’m headed back east. I left Quartzsite this morning bound for Plant City, FL via Edmond, OK then Lafayette, LA.

As luck would have it I’m currently sitting off the shoulder on I-10 waiting on a roadside service truck to come change an inside drive tire that I blew after being on the about 50 miles this AM.

When I leave Plant City I’ll probably deadhead north towards Siler City or somewhere in GA. If it looks like I’m going to pass close by I’ll send you a pm.

In order based on my experience here are the worst traffic spots in the US beginning with the absolute worst.

1) LA area
2) I-95 corridor
3) Atlanta
4) Houston
5) I-35 corridor

Easily Atlanta. Houston isn’t so bad since it has multiple loops that gives plenty options. I keep an eye on Apple Maps because it constantly updates traffic and shows the shortest routes according to time. The only reason I even mention Houston is the fact that it’s an extremely large area. It doesn’t seem to be any different than any other urban area in terms of volume per square mile. It gets mentioned because it’s spread out so it just takes longer get through there due to length of travel.

Atlanta on the other hand only has two. Towards the west or the east. If one is backed up, so is the other. If a crash happens on the route you chose then you’re double Dutch screwed.

I’d say the absolute worst is area around LA. Draw a box that goes from the Cajone Pass west to the coast, south to Dana Point, east to Indio then north on I-10 to San Bernardino then back over to the pass. Other than a few hours here or there traffic is always a beast. The closer you get to LA it doesn’t matter what time of the day or night it’s going to suck balls.

After that I’d say the I-95 corridor from the about 30 miles north of Baltimore down past the DC beltway until you get past Richmond, VA. However, when Covid hit most of the private employers and pretty much all government employees workers in that area started telecommuting which knocked down the volume considerably. Since the pandemic has ended most of those workers telecommute on Mondays and Fridays, but go in to the office on Tuesday-Thursday. In fact, I passed through there this past December on Friday the 8th. I planned to spend the night at my sister’s house which is in Fredericksburg, VA. I was prepared to sit in a parking lot since I would be passing around DC about 18:00. To my surprise I never slowed below 60 until I got down south at the bottom of the hill near Quantico. In fact, the northbound lanes were stop and go at times. However, I was running 72 mph southbound. On the other hand, about a month and a half before I went through on a Wednesday around the same time. Took me an extra 2.5 hours to get from Baltimore to Fredericksburg.

Not sure about NYC. I’ve heard rumors, but I only have limited first hand experience. I’ve gone into the Bronx to the Co-op at Hunt’s Point Market a half dozen times. But, my delivery appointments have always been in the wee hours of the AM. So when go I lay up in Roxbury, NJ which is about 65 miles west of the the George Washington bridge. I roll out about midnight and get to the Co-op about an hour later. Traffic is mostly non-existent though you will slow down a tad going across the bridge because they are always shutting down a lane or two to paint. Once they finish they go to the other end and start over. So there is always something going on. Anyway, I’m always out no later than say 6-7 AM. Since I’m going against traffic when I leave I never slow down except crossing the bridge and which really isn’t much.

The I-35 corridor beginning north of Denton, TX down past Dallas can be a pain at times not so much because of the stop and go, but because it’s about a 40 mile stretch so in peak hours you slow down, but generally not below say 40-50 mph unless there is a crash. It about the same as Houston, but just not as vast.

Neighbor's teenager son is out walking door to door to see if anyone needs to be shoveled and snow blown out for the impending storm. We have some elderly folks in the neighborhood that he knows and helps out clearing snow in the winter. Good to see a young kid helping out the elderly folks. $25 to clear out their driveway, steps, and sidewalks.

Say it takes him 30 minutes to clear the snow... that's about $50 an hour. Not a bad short time gig and I applaud him for helping out others. I told him to freely use my snowblower and stuff for his endeavors. Sure, he's making money but also helping folks. $25 to clear out the snow from your driveway, steps and sidewalk is pretty cheap in my area. I applaud the kid.

You gotta try San Francisco Bay Area traffic. Only LA is worse.

We have traffic here in Houston since it is the third largest city but nothing in comparison to California. California doesn’t build new roads. Here in Texas we have concrete. We have extra concrete. We build lots of roads! How wide you want it? Eight lanes. Let’s build it twelve lanes and add an access road in each direction.

Over did it today. Three inches of snow shoveled, walked three miles in the snow. Bought an upgrade of winter work gloves, ice melt, then a supreme meatball sub. Watching the NFL. Not the usual pop of a Steelers Ravens game.

Slept better today. Only woke up 3x that I remember. Deep asleep mid dreams when the alarm goes off is such a disorienting way to start the day.
