Oops ... sorry ikon ...

Misread your post. I thought you were guessing the top one was not real, because you didn't say what your guess was (real or fake) ... and then you went on to describe the bottom one.

Kind of confusing ...

You know ...

... the top one is from the new Siglo's ...

But, I'll bet the one on the bottom is from the EL ... because it only has two rows of white squares, just like the 'Limited Edition' that's in my hand right now.

Slim - Mega Hooah! Great Links and Great References...

The Bottom one is a lame attempt to fabricate the new Siglo bands.

smithbw, sorry about not replying. I don't get around here often. Yes, I'm sure, but it looks like you already got all the reference you need.

They completely redid the band on the Cohibas, including the gold, changing the number of squares above the "COHIBA", and dropping the "La" before "Habana, Cuba". I'm sure (and obviously from your picture) it won't be long before fakes try to catch on and proliferate. This is why familiarity with the source, the smell of a box of Cuban cigars, and all the tell-tale signs of a legitimately packaged box are important to a consumer.

The new bands are also embossed so the lettering is raised. Unfortunately, counterfeit bands are already at that e auction site.

RSPDiver - Great Response!

Knowing the gar by smell and the tell tale signs are the best way to identify a "Fake"

Actually, the top one is the "Real One".

...and what would stop one from paying someone to get ahold of a batch of "legit" bands to put on illegit cigars from Cuba or elsewhere? I know, I know.....I've read about the label folds and the factory serial numbers, but I bet there are very few of us who could be 100% unless the roller handed us the box. I guess if it smells like a Cuban, and it tastes like a Cuban....a rose by any other name would smell as sweet! Smoke 'em if you got 'em!

I agree with your assesement "Bands are only one of many way to identify a fake."

Smell and taste are right up there as well not to mention price. If it sounds too good to be true then it probably is.

AJ, please reference my post above. There's a lot more to it than just bands, as smithbw said.
