Coma,

Why can't an athlete be a hero? Do you have to put
your life on the line to be a hero?

He is right up there with the all-time all-times, no doubt. His performance of the death of his father will be in the sports history books. A few of us believe his father was watching the game.

I don't consider them heros (athlete's such as Farve) because it over enfacises their job, today every professional athlete makes far more money than a teacher, a cop a fire fighter, to me these people go to work everyday and provide a selfless service to the community. Mind not all of them do extraordinary things, those that do are heros!!

Athlete are entretainers, and there are some that performe extraordinare far beyond the expectation, those are to be commended. But I reserve the right to call heros those people that selflessly provide a community with their own lifes(beit risking their lives or giving their lives to better the community)

Damn, do I make sense???

anyway, it's just my opinion....

Personally, I have no problem with my 9 year old son putting Brett Favre in a "hero" class. There are plenty of other targets available to him I would just as soon he avoid. And some of them are sports figures. But Brett Favre is a great example of how someone should go about their profession. Whatever it is.

And FWIW, we have also visited the fire station to meet and see what they do. Later on he needed to interview someone in the community as part of a class project and he chose one of the firemen.

The definition of "hero" includes, among others, the following:

Somebody who commits an act of remarkable bravery or who has shown great courage, strength of character, or other admirable quality.

Somebody who is admired and looked up to for outstanding qualities or achievements

"Courage", "strength of character", and "outstanding qualities" are all terms that most certainly apply to Brett Favre ... this guy is an outstanding role model for kids everywhere ... he's a hero, no doubt about it

I'm glad he was able to face his drug problem and overcome it.

It looked like he was throwing as hard as he could a few times, with incredible accuracy! I don't remember any game that felt kinda like destiny or something.

I normally would have wanted the Raiders to win. But this game was more than just a game, because of the circumstances. It felt good to see him play the way he did.

He is one of the greatest. And I don't think anyone that saw this game will ever forget it.
