berger mentioned earlier that Ashcrofte was unknown & tasteless. Had my 1st one tonite & wasn't tasteless but wasn't great. In all fairness it was just off the truck w/no setup time, but at $0.60 I didn't feel as if I'd be losing much. The size threw me off, but I'm pretty sure it is a Cupido.

Same wrapper leaf. Same nose. It also stuffed up my nose just like a Cupido always does to me. There's just something about that cigar.

Anyone agree? Disagree?

I like GOOD cigars mind you, but I like some cheapies for running the roads and driving home from work, ect.

I have tried Montague Lanceros (not bad for a yard gar), Bad Frogs (the one Rick sent was better than the ones I bought, causing me to "lay them up" because I suppose age was the difference), Dark Sharks (not too bad, but the stuff all over your fingers will keep me from buying more), and a few others. Encanto Elegantes aren't too bad, and I have two or three boxes of Ras Tafaris aging (the first ones I got were gifted to me, and I was told they had a year on them, darn good). I like Puros Indios (any I've tried), and Cupido Criollos are actually one of my go-to gars! NONE of the above will ever take the place of a Torano Tribute, or Exodus Gold, or 1916 Cameroon, Nor put me off of Indian Tabac Cameroon Legend Gorillas, Perferidos Maduros, or Gurkha Select Aged Cammies. But I think some people either only smoke one cigar every two or three days or have too much money, to pass up some decent (not great, but decent) cigars.

Thomas Hinds defintely is the worst I've tried. It has a sort of urine taste to it, dog nozzle, not dog rocket.

worst: cumbres and UNAGED takoma (aged, the red boxes anyway were MIGHTY tasty!).

i gotta say -- i LOVE LOVE LOVE connecticut yankee and encanto!

i'm trying to work up the nerve to light up an estrella de cuba, and i also want to try a flor de todo sometime.

a lot of so-called "dog rockets" are smokes i really did like -- puros indios & reyes' genuine especially. the dark shark i burned was okay. the thomas hinds i had definitely had some age on it, and it was pretty decent. ditto with the predators i've tried (NOT the sinclair version). don tomas is pretty good, too -- even the W&D (seconds of don tomas) weren't too bad. definitely smokable. they just don't look pretty.

montague and flor de filipinas... see, now i've had good and bad experiences with these. aged well, i like both - especially the montague. without the age, though, FUHGEDDABOWDIT!

UR kidding Cavallo? I was going to list Takoma right next to Burma. I tossed the all my 5 packs I accidently bid on and won. I thought Takoma was a bad attempt to reach the White Owl or Roy Tan plateau.

Maybe I'll throw down a couple dollars and try and age them a year or so. I figured Takoma was hopeless.

The worst I can ever remember is something called Chantillys (I should have guessed from the name alone). After about 3 puffs I ditched it. Nothing else I have ever smoked has ever come close to the vile taste this dog t*rd had.

I don't exactly remember the name, but it had something to do with "Purple Ribbon" or something like that; it came in a white tube with a purple ribbon on it. Had it about 15 years ago as a gift from a friend who had come back from France. He said that he got it there to celebrate his sons birth.

It smelled good, but tasted like someone had poured perfume or kerosene in my mouth. We all had to smoke the only other thing we had around, Swisher Sweets, to get the taste out it was so bad.

just so folks don't think "well, cav just likes craptastic smokes" 🙂 i DO like super-premiums and isoms and such. very much so. but it's realistic for me to look for much less expensive smokes to buy. that said...

rayder: now, i DO have 2-3 boxes of the blue, and those DO suck (at least the couple i've tried of them). the ONLY pack that was delicious was a red pack that had some age on it -- it could have been a fluke, but that whole five pack box was excellent.

i've got the blue boxes resting away, though, and i'll smoke one every 6 months to see if "something magical" has happened to them! lol

italian: TRY THE PI! good lord. i love these things! PI is one of my favorite go-to 'gars. yes, it's an every day smoke, but i dig 'em.

if any of you guys have any of these you want to get rid of, let's trade!

- cibao

- mi cubana

- mantequilla

- reyes genuine

- emilio reyes bundle 'gars

- la floridita

i haven't tried the last one, but while some folks say it's a total craptastic bundle 'gar, others swear that they're great.

I tried the Flordita maduro torpedo about 2 yrs. ago.

The first one tasted bad, but after letting the others sit in the humi for 6 mos. I ended up actually liking them. I consider them a med. body smoke, draw was easy and burned fairly even.

Cavalla. La Floridita is a Costa Rican Tabacalera Tambor product. It is pleasant & uncomplicated. I had a bundle of the belicoso's & smoked a few, then gave most away & sold a few for a buck a stick to a local bar. It would never be a reach for cigar IMHO.

King Cobra also comes to mind as a particularly bad cigar I have smoked.

A couple of years ago, I walked into my friends shop, and all the guys were sitting around passing a couple of cigars and critiquing the flavor. When I walked in the door, I was handed one and told to take a couple of puffs or else. Well, after choking out a few puffs, it was my turn to try to capture the horror in words. Basically, it tasted like sewage smells, with a hint of burnt metal and overtones of bile. The oddly intriguing thing, is the guys that took more than one shot at it said that the flavor changed each time, slowly mutating into something worse.

Turns out that they were samples that had been sent to the shop by a distributer. Needless to say, they were never stocked at the shop. The only good thing they had was a cool combined sun/moon logo.
