Well, since I spend somewhere around $3600 of my own money plus another $1000 or 2000 of company bonus points & I can't afford Cuban Partagas (unless I want to cut my smoking way back) I guess somewhere in the $8300 range.

Sorry for the threadjack.

Russell,

I am curious how you claim them on your taxes?

My accountant said I could write off a portion as promo items, if I gave any out to my customers, which last year I did a little, but wasn't clear how much or how I could.

I just give him all my receipts and invoices and he goes thru them.

Yatang, let me know more. You can shop at my humidor.

Actually, there are a couple of good places in town that you might enjoy.

Of course, we have to get a smoke together with a couple of drinks.

Opatience,

I claim them under promotion and/or entertainment. I do a fairly good job of tracking the ones that I give away (and it is important that you do that for the audit if you are ever audited).

For example, I would list it like this:

4/9/04 Fox and Hound with Sean Tucker of Schwab. Discussed potential consulting opportunities with him over drinks and cigars. Drinks: a bazillion single malts costing X and two Partagas 150 A's costing Y.

I keep track of all of my business expenses on a spreadsheet and point to the check number and credit card entry for my purchases so I can verify that I did indeed buy the stuff.

Hey Russ, that's an excellent ideas, we should hook up and I would like to look at your huge humdior too. I will contact you once I finalize the trip. Thanks again, it would be fun to meet some nice BOTL and have a great smoke together after a long day of boring tech training.

0opatience,

Don't worry about the threadjack...if you read the first post on this thread you will see that it was threadjacked early on. You are only further jacking the thread 🙂
