Forget the zoo and animal stuff! Watch those animal shows on tv...
Hit the beaches from Coronado to San Clemente...
Head for Coronado Ferry landing from Seaport Village (have lunch at one of Seaport's spots...once in Coronado, rent bikes there at the landing and ride to the famous Hotel Del Coronado...have a drink and a cigar at the pool/beach bar and hang out for the day...dinner across the street at Bistro D'Asia...
Drive to the Anza-Borrego desert for the day...have lunch in Palm Springs...ride the air tram to the top of the mountain...
Rent a car and drive up to the San Clemente, Dana Point area (about 45 mins north of your hotel) or take the train...very pretty at the pier in San Clemente...find a little lunch spot...
Old Town SD is a fun day of walking, eating, shopping if you're into that...cheesy SD/Mexican type souveniers...small theater to catch a play...great restaurants...
Basically, if you want to see San Diego and the surrounding areas...
I'd spend a day in Coronado (and hit TJ if you are so inclined)...
A day in La Jolla/Torrey Pines/Pacific Beach/Mission Beach area...
A day in the mountain/desert area...
A day enjoying your resort area and hanging at the pool...
And a day up the coast to San Clemente...
Not necessarily in that order!
