i'll keep using the punch, too; i just prefer it in most cases. but that sure gives folks a good reason not to puff like crazy on a cigar. :I

I used to get that when I punched my VSG's and 858 SG. It is tar that builds up due to the smaller opening created by the punch vice a cutter. Started cutting and problem solved.

I prefer a punch also. What I will do on a larger ring gage cigar is punch a whole and then enlarge it with the punch so there is a bigger whole. But you still have the sholder of the cigar uncut.
