PS...for what is was worth...I saw Air Force One being escorted by fighter jets in the air...Our building evacuated too...In that instant I was scared. I've seen fighter jets. I've seen Air Force One. I've NEVER seen the 2 together flying in battle formation.

only such flawed thinking would allow you to think of bush as anything but an idiot. maybe he should have stayed in the school for a week to not cause a commotion.

shouldn't he have been ablwe to think that perhaps he would be a target and that he should get away from the kids as soon as possible. couldn;t he have stood up and say "kid's i have to go potty and i'll be back soon." couldn't he have said "kids, the president has some president duties to do, but i'll be back another day."

shouldn't he have read the august alert instead of going on vacation.

i'm sorry, but you are dismissed. come back when you have something to say that makes sense.

Talk about folks that are boring, and the first name after Kerry is yours!

Go to your hobbies and relax a bit! Taking on cigarbid board is not something that is good for you! Smoke a Montecristo, or at least a Bad Frog and relax, enjoy life, listen to kerry change positions and get all excited about how wonderful a man he is!

Do something else besides smear the President with your childish wailing!

This thread all strated about the loss of the lives of the American Military men and women. Since 1971 or 1972 the U.S. Military has been an all volunteer force. When it first started (at least for the Army) it was called VOLAR (VolunteerArmy). Having served our country for more than 20 years on Active Duty, I knew going in, as well as every other person who has raised their hand and sworn the oath of enlistment, that we were "volunteering"to put our lives in possible jeopardy in defence our our country, and our country's intrests internationally. We train for our mission continuaslly. What is that mission? To engage the "enemy" in battle, and to WIN!! Again, we know that our lives may well be in jeopardy, but guess what? That is the price of freedom! It is not up to the soldier, airman, sailor, marine; officer or enlisted, to make policy regarding whom we are directed to fight or defend in the intrests of our country. We must rely on our Commander and Chief, his advisors, and the Joint Chiefs of Staff to make the correct decisions and implement them, using the military to implement that policy, if needed. Were we attacked? You bet your A$$! Did we respond? YOU BET! Should we have gone after Sadam? YES!! I was not happy when the first Gulf War ended with us withdrawing and leaving Sadam in power. Everyone knew, or should have known that he would not comply with the sanctions placed on him by the U.N. Anyway, I'm glad that we are there again and have removed Sadam from his dictatorship. I also believe that the majority of the Iriqui(?) people are glad that he is gone. The terrorists are the ones who are trying to regain power in the only way that they can, through fear, intimidation, and random attacks. Is it a shame that we are losing American lives there in the process? Of course it is. But again, our military is there to ensure the country's freedom and help to instill a democratic government. Will the new government be able to handle the terrorists without us? Probably in time, but they need our help right now, and I believe that the United States, who believes in freedom, should be there giving that new government the chance to get on its feet.

Of course, this is just MHO, and opinions are like a$$ holes, everyone has one.

LOL at Rick. Your post put an image in my mind of GW running down the road with a 747 chasing after him. 🙂

You make a decent point that he could have made an excuse to get up right then and leave. However would those extra few minutes have saved anyone? Its not like he was even in NYC or DC. Like DrMaddVibe said, its not like they had Airforce One waiting outside for him beside the monkey bars or something.

And as for the August report...if people didn't know before then that Bin Laden was trying to strike in the US they had already missed about 100 warning signs. So a report with no specific information on where is essentially useless.

Silly? Programmed? I don't think so Rick. That's my opinion of the matter. What did you want him to do, interrupt the kids story and tell them that right now people are jumping out of the World Trade Center from the 80th floor? Tell them that WWIII is beginning and he's got leave and fire up the BBQ for a steak to eat while he's watching it all live on Fox News?

You want silly? Look at the conspiracy theories surrounding 9-11. Those are silly. From the "No plane hit the Pentagon" to "The Jews Knew" and all the way to your GW knew that the WTC and Washington DC were going to be attacked on 9-11 in the morning and did nothing! I've read the 911 Commission Report. I'd suggest you do too. There's blame to go around for everyone, if you're into that game. I'd rather we continue with the War on Terrorism and keep taking it to them. As for programmed...well, you've just read yet another opinion of mine and not some talking point or issued statement.

On a side note...did you finish Postman's book yet?

i know i ordered it and received it and it iw with several other books to be read. i can't remember the name, but the author's name will help when i check the books. thanks for the reminder.

i haven't been able to read for a few months, other then blurbs and things to copy and paste. yesterday i had lasik surgery to correct some blind spots, in my eye, not my thinking smart ass, and my eye has improved dramatically. it is astonishing what doctors can do now. i am starting to feel as solid as a 72 chev 4X 1 ton, with all new parts. shame i can't get a new paint job, too much rust.

Get well. There's always Extreme Makeover to knock the "rust" off.

Rick hope the surgery went well for you. Best wishes on the recovery. I've seen people get that surgery before, and i don't think there is anyway i could sit through it myself.

i thank everyone for the well wishes.

in spite of all the bickering, when it gets down to it, we all really do care about each other.

i spoke to TJ at cigarbid and he was telling me his dad wen for a colonoscopy. first one, age 50. routine "inspection" with everything turning out positive when i spoke to him later.

i told him to tell his father, i have had a half dozen, i am older you know, and it is a piece of cake. they use an amnesiac called versed, and you do not remember what happenned even though you were wide awake and talking to the doctor. in my case he said i told him jokes. when i went in a wkk ago to set up an appointment, he showed me the record of having one last summer. i couldn't remember

and Derek_OC it was a little intimidating, but no real pain and it is done with someone counting down. first part i heard him say 21 seconds, 10 seconds 5 seconds, done. second procedure was about the same length and he counted down the same way.

now the eye is better then this morning. when i was younger, i had sex that didn't take that long.

i don't suggest you keep a running account of time with your girl friend or wife, but it is something to think about, just don't laugh.

Rick,

Thanks for the concern, but I haven't been in harm's way since '91. Also, I'm glad to hear that your procedure went OK.
