Have you seen any administration official on tv in two years tell us about a threat? Like watch out for balloons, or model planes, or people near banks, or you know, the stuff Ashcroft was coming out with weekly just to 'keep us on our toes'?

I know I haven't. They have said after OBL was killed that it might be a possibility, but they aren't out to scare people and say that only Democrats can save the world from terrorists, which is what the previous administration was saying, only Republicans.

Travel Alert
U.S. DEPARTMENT OF STATE
Bureau of Consular Affairs

Worldwide
May 01, 2011

The U.S. Department of State alerts U.S. citizens traveling and residing abroad to the enhanced potential for anti-American violence given recent counter-terrorism activity in Pakistan. Given the uncertainty and volatility of the current situation, U.S. citizens in areas where recent events could cause anti-American violence are strongly urged to limit their travel outside of their homes and hotels and avoid mass gatherings and demonstrations. U.S. citizens should stay current with media coverage of local events and be aware of their surroundings at all times. This Travel Alert expires August 1, 2011.

U.S. Embassy operations in affected areas will continue to the extent possible under the constraints of any evolving security situation. U.S. government facilities worldwide remain at a heightened state of alert. These facilities may temporarily close or periodically suspend public services to assess their security posture. In those instances, U.S. Embassies and Consulates will make every effort to provide emergency services to U.S. citizens. U.S. citizens abroad are urged to monitor the local news and maintain contact with the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate.

Media coverage of local events may cause family and friends to become concerned for their loved ones traveling and residing abroad. We urge U.S. citizens to keep in regular contact with family and friends. U.S. citizens living or traveling abroad are encouraged to enroll in the Department of State's Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP), to receive the latest travel updates and information and to obtain updated information on travel and security issues. U.S. citizens without Internet access may register directly with the appropriate U.S. Embassy or Consulate. By enrolling, U.S. citizens make it easier for the U.S. Embassy or Consulate to contact them in case of emergency.

Travel information is also available at travel.state.gov. Up-to-date information on security can also be obtained by calling 1-888-407-4747 toll-free in the United States and Canada or, for callers outside the United States and Canada, a regular toll line at 1-202-501-4444.

For information on "What the Department of State Can and Can't Do in a Crisis," please visit the Bureau of Consular Affairs’ website at travel.state.gov. For further information on specific countries, U.S. citizens should consult the Country Specific Information pages, Travel Alerts, and Travel Warnings, as well as the Worldwide Caution. Follow us on Twitter and the Bureau of Consular Affairs’ page on Facebook as well.

Um, HD? If you reread my post, post 41, in it I did say, "They have said after OBL was killed that it might be a possibility, but they aren't out to scare people".

The 'might be a possibilty' was increased terror, but you can go back and read the entire context.

I'm tired of bouncing from tangential issue to tangential issue with FuzzNJ. But, the video link below is exactly what I would expect an intellectually honest liberal to say. It's Alan Dershowtiz saying the US is a bunch of hypocrites for shooting OBL in cold blood. I'm a "do what has to be done guy" which differs from the liberal line of no waterboarding, etc. so I have no problem with what happened. But, so far Dershowitz is the only consistent lefty on this whole thing.

The problem is the whole basis of your argument is they are not out to scare people unlike during the previous administration. That is your standard politically slanted fact creation.

The current administration isn't out to scare people but neither was the previous one. The previous administration wasn't out to scare people. The reality is people were a lot more scared in 2002-03 than they are today. It was the previous administration telling business travelers to get back on planes and resume commerce. It was the business travelers that did just that and said "F&%k Al Quiada".

Maybe, maybe not.....the logistics and timeing could have been problematic. They were uninvited guests in a foreign country garrison town. Presumably time was of the essance, and if there was a little bit of resistince it was probably easier just to tap him. That and they prolly just wanted him dead.

ive read a few articles, even the libs on msnbc agree it would have been complicated if we took him alive. who would defend him, the long agony of the trial, publicity hound attorneys, where would he be buried, crazies would be rallying around the world for him, would he be brouhgt on US soil, to get a fair defense, he would have to be allowed access to confidential documents, etc. The simple execution and subsequent dump at sea was the best solution IMO. i think obama called this one right.

^ I think so too but we'd better keep using the right words about it... ie we would have arrested him but he resisted. There are already voices discussing possible international law issues (der speigel etc).

Glad we did it like we did. Flawless in my opinion.
Papachristou

the WH should have kept their mouth shut about the whole thing IMO. obamas speech was fine but they keep releasing details then changing them. its no ones business but ours. no one is going to say a d@mn word to us about it. Like you said, he resisted and was shot in the process. end of story, no more details, no photos, nothing. Also i hear he was shot across the face which would follow the resisting storyline.

what are you going to do? try the USA in international court? good luck!
HockeyDad

Agreed.

This was a top secret military operation. No details required. Game over, move on.

Worth discussing is what intelligence we acquired during the raid. We shouldn't be told that either.

Worth discussing is what is Pakistan's role with Bin Laden's location.
