Baracuda,
I like your style....I really do. I appreciate your candor and your personal view. That's what thinking is all about.

In regards to the ACLU, I don't agree with all that they do and say. I dig into the story, search for facts, and then make a judgement. As I've said before....Question Everything!

The ACLU as said above have a goal of protecting all religions, they are not out to blasphemize one or the other. We get really upset when they complain about a California legal seal with Christian references on it, but when they complain about a California legal seal with a buddhist symbol on it (just an example) we cheer them on.

Personally, I agree with them about certain issues. For example the removal of the Ten Commandments from that courtroom in Alabama. How would you like to be the guy on trial for murder (especially innocent), with those words staring every member of the jury in the face? If the Ten Commandments are to be used in a court of Law, then there's a whole lot of us in some serious trouble.

adroomi,
First of all, let me say Sorry, it's a bit wordy...

You said that "What rankles most, is the insistance that the First Amendment guarantee of free religion includes the choice to follow no religion, thus any tolerance by the government of any one religion is seen as a violation." When specifying a religious choice, if someone chooses None, then their religious view is the absence of religion. And that religious view is being forced on those that have a different religious view because of the ACLU. I have to follow the religious beliefs of None. I'm not saying atheism is a religion, but it is a religious view, and the government cannot enforce any one religious view on it's citizens.

The 1st amendment says:
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."

There is nothing about separation of Church and State in the Constitution, Bill of Rights, or the Amendments, and, if you take it as it is written (as so many do when it comes to the speech and press clauses) then the government could force you to choose a religion, they just couldn't tell you which religion to choose. Or, a more liberal stance would be that the government can't show preference to one religion and one religion only. If you replace the word "religion" in the previous sentence with the words "religious view", you can easily see the what the ACLU and the Supreme Court did (and are doing) is unconstitutional because it is forcing upon me the religious view of no religion. The state can put up a Christmas tree, but not a Cross or a Creche, because they are religious symbols. So the non-religious symbol of a Christmas tree is the only symbol the state displays (ok, with some reindeer and a jolly old fat man named Saint Nick....ooops, I meant the secular Santa) but by displaying that, they are forcing the non-religious view on me everytime I see the Fat Man and the Christmas tree.

That is not tolerance, which is what the 1st Amendment was striving for. It's not that they can't display religious symbols, they just can't display only one religion's symbols while excluding the display of others. But, they also aren't forced to provide (nor should they ever) a religious symbol to display. So if my pastor pays for a Cross in the public park, the state wouldn't pay for a Star of David, but if someone wanted to supply it, it would be displayed with no qualms.

Also, note that it says "CONGRESS shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof", that's very important because the 10th Amendment says "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people." Now that leads into a whole 'nother area of discussion on this...since Congress is forbidden, then that right belongs to the states.

Hup, sorry but all I've read from the founding fathers writings indicates to me that "seperation of church and state" had a two fold intent. It was to protect religion from the government AND it was to protect the government from religion. Freedom of religion merely is the freedom to worship (or NOT worship) as the individual wishes.

Once I saw the 9th Circuit was involved, I saw no reason to read any further. Not only are they to most wacked out nutjobs in the Federal Judicial system, the Supreme Court over turns more of their decisions than any other circuit.

Keep in mind, if they remove the Crosses, they also have to remove the Star of David, the Islamic Crescent, etc. It ain't gonna happen.

Zoinks,
I'd love to reply to your post right now, but I Can't, I'm really messed up in the Hilton in Seoul Korea. Wow, one too many bottles of wine I guess.

All I can say is F*ck the ACLU and the horse they rode in on....ha ha!

I spent the evening in a really cool cigar pub I've hung out at whenever I'm here. the manager (a really gorgeous long-haired vixen) is chowing on some spagetti from the all night room service menu. One more glass of wine and then I'll see if I can still do my "ole Adroomi magic." I doubt it.

I'll comment tomorrow....I have a cuban cigar, and a Korean lady that need my attention......

I looked out the window on November 2, 2004... all I seen was Red.... which ment the majority of voters in this country had a Christian background and spoke their peace at the polls across this land... although your thought of Majority becoming the minority is a possiblity in the future after Nov 2nd of this last year... I don't see it coming in the near future and Americans are waking up and fighting back for the rights of this land to not be eroded away by the likes of the ACLU who's agenda is to attack the very foundations of the Christian Religion which by far is and will remain the Majority in this land for a very long time...

I've been there.... the photo is of Pattons grave and the cemetary of the other US soldiers. An awsome sight!
It's in Luxemburg. So good luck if the ACLU were to attempt it. Not that I'm saying they are. I don't like the ACLU either. Just because of the stances they take on certain issues. Freedom of Religion does not mean Freedom from Religion. If I have one and you don't... tuff. Where is Common Sense anymore? Regardless of anyones non religion. This country has a very religious history. The symbols in courthouses and on money have every right to be there.
