I live in memphis and a number of years ago a white officer (former military, decorated) shot a black male at dusk in west memphis. Anyway, the story as i remember it goes a cop confronts the kid in a high crime area, it was dusk, i dont know where the kid was walking from or going to but at some point, the kid has a toy gun in his hand, the officer orders him to drop it, kid ends up shot. then they find out it is a fake gun. of course, the city was rioting, burning stuff, no one would go to west memphis for anything. the black community boycotted a bunch of businesses etc. the news showed a picture of the kid in kindergarten, i dont know how old he was though. everyone was screaming racist, hang him etc. The guy was a decorated vet, devoted cop, it even came out later that he had given cpr and mouth to mouth to a black kid who collapsed at a game or something. Racist dont do those kinds of things. The mom sued the city for $250 MILLION! i just have a hard time believing that anyone wakes up wanting to kill someone, especially a kid.

yeah, i cant understand how someone could edit a conversation to support their theory and not be charged with something. they are twisting facts to manipulate the public. Play the call, give the transcript but this is just crazy. makes you wonder how many other things they "edited" for our convenience.

also, it is slightly amusing there isnt a front page story about this producer being fired? 🐴

Absent slander, I think there is generally a very wide First Amendment scope for the media. We don't want to "freeze out" the media by charging crimes. That would dissuade the media from reporting even simple, truthful, accurate news.

I think for there to be a crime here there would have to be willful, wanton misconduct likely to result in great bodily harm. The problem is that whatever was done as a result of the report would likely be considered a "superseding intervening" act which could cut off criminal liability.

Now, there certainly could be a civil suit by Zimmerman for misrepresenting his words and broadcasting inaccurate info detrimental to his well being.

Firing that person and admitting to the misconduct was the right thing to do, especially when announcing the problem publicly.

Anyhow, the short answer to your question is a highly likely "No".

Peaceful protesters shut down the Sanford Police Department today. If a decision not to prosecute is announced, the National Guard should be in place ahead of time.

Just a thought, if here is a riot we can all get together at that store in Lake Mary for a smoke... It's probably close enough to watch he smoke rise....
