Right to work, open shop, whatever you wanna term it, is a way to break unions.
The state requires equal pay within a shop, plant, on a site or project. Non union actually make more, no union dues to be paid, ect.
When enough people drop out and the union goes away due to no funds, who do you get equal pay to?
That's when minimum wage will be your high water mark.

Engletl,

You're a state licensed master electrician, working on a military base. You're not easily replaceable.
License obviously, one issue. Background clear for you, and company E-verify compliant.
I'm taking this for granted based on your posts.
Not so for a line worker in the UAW, who's only wrong doing may be having been with the company too long, and now makes 'too much'.
Be like you getting your journeymans card after apprenticeship and losing your job because new apprentices are cheaper. Start a new trade at that point?
I'm a union carpenter, Im not really worried about being replaced. Any one wants this job can have it.
However, companies can't just discard employees for the next cheaper batch, if there's going to be any quality of life for working people. Union or not.

So, non-union gets a free ride.

Actually I am no longer a "Marine" electrician (Not a military base either, we build ships), gave that up about 10 years ago to move into the Business Management side (I am a Cost Analyst now) and we are "salary" with no representation. But I am making almost double what I would have if I was still a Craftsman.

Fortunately for the craft workers there is a strict ratio required between First Class and Apprentices (IIRC it is like 5 or 6 to 1)

I totally agree with the lack of respect towards knowledgeable worker vs "green" labor. To much "green" destroys learning curves and that drives up costs

If that were true, every job announcement would say "no experience required."

First post is confusing.

In the mail, my wife received a UAW magazine. She's a teacher and at her newest job she was automatically placed into the union. No choice in the matter.
She has requested to opt out, but she can not until she meets with the local union personnel. The earliest appointment is in the fall.

Anyhow, she gets this UAW rag. I don't know the exact relationship between the UAW and her teaching union, but it's address to her and could not be a coincidence.

So I'm curious about the content. Not in the same way I'm curious why HockeyDad is so fond of sharing his stool at the Honey Pot with two close friends. Rather, I'm curious in much the same way people stare at the automobile accident: you want to see the disfigured body, but are sorry if you actually catch a glimpse.

This magazine is an unabashed political ad for Obama/Biden.
The title is "Solidarity: How We Vote"
The information inside is nothing more than liberal opinions, but they are disguised as facts.

I will share some of the tidbits if I get an opportunity.
If anyone else has received this I'd be interested to hear your opinion on it.
