It's the level that the average American voter seems to comprehend.

Look at the presidential election.
For instance, a huge percentage voted against Romney because he "wanted to control a woman's reproductive rights".
Yup.
Forget the deficit. Forget wars in the Middle East. Forget our spiral into bancruptcy.
The new GOP president would have seen to it that woman would have to pay for their own contraception. Then they'd make it illegal to get their coveted abortion. Then they would have paid them 20% less for the same job.
You know that's hogwash, but I bet you've used a portion of these arguments yourself. Probably on these forums.
It's mind boggling to hear such lunacy from supposedly sane people.

And I haven't even mentioned the platform of "fair share". That's an even bigger joke.
Logical discussions can be made about wealth disparity. But to say "Pay your fair share" without identifying what it is and (more importantly) how it will be used is idiotic to put it mildly.

So the "free stuff" mantra from the author isn't too far off from how it unfolded.

And I haven't even touched upon the race issue.
I'm sure lots of backwoods rednecks voted against Obama because he's black.
But about 95% of black voters cast their ballot for Obama.
Think about that. Because if you've ever did any work on consensus, you'd understand how it's almost impossible to get 95% to agree on ANYTHING.
But. Well.
There it is.

But you just proved my point.
There are a large number of issues:
Women's reproductive rights
Abortion
Gun Control
Taxes
Military Spending
Gay rights
Welfare
etc etc etc

My point is that an intelligent person took the sum total of all the issues, weighted them based on personal significance, and then chose a candidate who best fit their desires.

To assume that everyone who voted one way "wants free stuff" shows a complete inability to even understand the issue at hand.

Well tailgater, you make some valid points on both sides BUT the data suggests that the more educated you are the more likely you were to vote for Obama. So the "smart money" voted for the President. Also, 3/4ths of the evangelical vote went for the Mormon (go figure) mostly because he said he would protect the unborn child...talk about one issue voters. Many of them actually believe that God is a Republican and openly hate Democrats (don't get me started).

I don't buy the free stuff argument mainly because BOTH parties are so bought and paid for with corporate SuperPAC money that the special interests have their hooks into them...History tells us that influence buys you stuff. What that influence buys only time will tell but if Romney had won then the military and big oil would have benefited greatly (they still will BTW).

I also have been intrigued by the process that the GOP is going through post election results (POST ELECTION GRIEF). So far most seem stuck in the denial/grief stage but they need to move on and deal with it. In the immortal words of Cher in "Moonstruck"...."Snap out of it!"

BTW...the stages of grief are....denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance...

They looked at all the issues and then voted to get paid.

Although the majority of Dems prolly took this into consideration you are right... not all voted just for free stuff... others voted solely because of his race... still others voted because the feel they are holier than thou and needed to sell records and movies and stuff..... all the OP wanted to know was why you voted for Obama... you don't have to disect the question or answer for the whole country.. just answer his question honestly with your own personal reasons.... 😟

condescending and incorrect.

Read the original question. Nothing about voting (I made the error at the beginning as well)

The question simply asks "Why do you want the country to become communist?"

But we've gotten away from that. Try to keep up drafter, we're now talking about waldo's infatuation with an op-ed piece that can't seem to be any more complex than "everyone I don't like just wants free stuff".... you'd probably like the piece too.

Nonsense... they were dead-on with the polling data and stuff. No way that group could be inaccurate about anything.
