My friend Nick died on May 05, 1985 returning from a routine patrol when the vessel I had PCS'd from 2 weeks before caught fire. He was down on what we called the lower 3x3 Rick. The lower 3x3 are the catwalks just above the engine room bilges. He was trapped down below and couldn't get past the fire to safety. Another friend, Wolf, flew with his body back home.

If you can't say thanks Rick, perhaps you shouldn't say anything.

I think you guys are misconstrueing X's meaning there. I think he feels the lifes were unnecessarily lost in a battle that shouldn't have been fought and that is the shame.

Its not disrespectful to vets if I'm correctly interpreting there.

Though you guys may disagree.

Personally I don't like questioning VOLUNTEERS who sign up during war time. But I think questioning the call to war isn't necessarily a bad thing either.

I for one never misconstrue anything.

Sacrifice is for warriors.

Some lead....many follow.

The Armed Services is a calling for warriors.

Right, wrong, or indifferent.

I'm a pro at reading between the lines.

I'll leave it at that.

As far as questioning government's rush to war, it is our duty as citizens to do so. As a society, we should never blindly support a call to arms without questioning the reason behind the call. Once committed however, we as a society should honor ALL who serve, including complete care for those who as a result of such service become casulties.
