Outside in the garage with a smoke cruising to an Eagles comp disc - "Desperado" playing at the moment...and now "Already Gone." Love that Don Felder solo!

I don't care for the "new" Eagles. I'm a big fan of the original line-up plus Don Felder. Not a Joe Walsh fan, or at least, not a Joe Walsh with the Eagles fan. Joe with the James Gang or solo, okay but he pretty much ruined it for me when he joined up.

The new Pearl Jam - "Lightning Bolt"...it's a better record because you can actually hear the words Eddie Vedder is singing instead of the mumbling warble...musically it's more of an acoustic album with shades of their former glory with tinges of Beck, Green Day and The Black Keys...if you're a fan...you're gonna get it.

no chit? I'm going to have to give it a listen. I was a big fan of Pearl Jam back through the first 4-5 albums. However, I still literally laugh out loud every time I hear Yellow Ledbetter...."Make me fries!"....lol

Here's my take on "Lightning Bolt"

Gave "Lightning Bolt" a couple of spins yesterday.

I'm glad they're back making music. One reason for that is FINALLY Eddie Vedder stopped using the mashed potato microphone he used to sing through. Sounded more like some mumbling wino or Mushmouth from Fat Albert...gone is THAT Eddie on this. He sings with a confidence. He actually WANTS you to understand the words he's singing. Perhaps it was the long absence...maybe it was his solo stabs onstage...IDK...I don't care...I'm glad I can finally understand the guy without reading the lyrics sheet.

Musically...how can you bash the rest of the band? Honestly? They've ALWAYS been a very tight band in the studio and live...they stretch the material in ways that you wouldn't see it coming...McReady and Gossard are a near perfect guitar tandem alongside Keef and Mick Taylor, Tipton and Downing...and the older Def Leppard duo of Steve Clark and Phil Collen...when they share lead riffs...it just happens.

Is this an album for the newer fan of theirs...no. This is a treat for their longtime fans. The ones that saw them early on and the ones that kept on listening to what they were doing. I would honestly say this album reminds me of a painting that was put on canvas by Beck during the "Sea Changes" period...Jack Johnson's "Thicker Than Water" with a brush spray of the Black Keys and Green Day.

My favorite tracks so far are "Swallowed Whole", "Infallible" and "My Father's Son".

Look, by this time they're not out to put the world on fire. They've already done that and when you see them live...they go back to those first 3 albums deep and show you..but this is them...relaxed...refreshed...rehearsed...and ready to tour again. If you were a fan...you're going to get this. Enjoy!
